Just showed up on Zoa frag

I did remove the frag to the QT tank so its all by itself. The difficulty is that its inbetween two polyps of the zoa colony. It retracts between them and i cant see it. I did get it on it for sure but it retracted to in between the polyps again. If it can see it i may just scrape off a few polyps to make sure. I just hate to do that but they will grow back.

I have had great luck with pepper shrimp. Just make sure it really is a peppermint shrimp and not a camel shrimp.

Looks like you could frag the disk and get rid of the aiptasia (you'll lose a couple polyps too it looks like) but your problem will be gone. I pulled a bigger chalice (nothing special/named) due to an aiptasia. Guess I'm impatient but I'm still aiptasia free over a year later (knock on wood). For some reason dumping Aiptasia X or kalk paste over the zoas worries me more...

Edit: if you do go this route and are not aware of the serious dangers of palytoxin, please do your homework and wear eye/face/hand protection before you go forward...

Aiptasia, only needs one cell to rejuvenate I heard. Also when you go to bother it. It will go into protection mode (when it recedes into the live rock) and repopulate mode. So if you get a peppermint shrimp (that actually wants to eat it, because once they find a better food source. You they will stick to that), aiptasia eating file fish, or copper band butterfly bothering it. I would be afraid the aiptasia would go into reproduce or grow back from the cells left attached to the live rock in their hidey hole.
I have tried the hot water method. Didn't work.
A lot of the treatments for them has to deal with that paste in their mouth. Seen a video when it is done. They kind of implode. Once again. What happens to the cells that are still attached. Lemon juice works I heard also. Inject it in the mouth with a hypodermic needle. Just be careful with the lemon juice. It will spike the pH.
Glad you caught it. Keep it out of the DT till you 100% know it is gone.

I’m with Tommy on this I have a few peppermint shrimp in my tanks (displays, frag, some sumps) and these guys do work lol. I don’t mind app in my main sump but once in a while they pop up in a display and the next time I look poof gone.

So I ended up with using Joes Juice. The frag was in an empty QT tank at the time and the little bugger was out and waving around. I squirted it with the juice and poof, gone. I left it in the QT tank for two more days for observation before putting it back in the display tank. As of today the colony looks good and there is no signs of the offending creature yet.
