Congratulations! The rescape looks great and I like the barebottom! Since you moved the anemone onto the larger coral/rock structure, I would keep a close eye on the surrounding corals for any damage.

Thanks! Its nice owning my first home! I really like the bare bottom as well. Yeah unfortunately the anomone moved himself there the night after the move. I was really looking forward to growing a nice Acro there. I'm tossing the idea around of re homing him since the clowns wont take the plunge in it anyways.
 
How do you have that monti mounted on the back wall?? That looks really cool.

Its actually just a single frag rack with a waterproof magnet in the back chamber. It kind of makes me nervous but it does look cool. Thanks!

Updated FTS after today's water change. Mounted frags I got a couple weeks ago from Bubbaque. Good Polyp extention and the look healthy.

My Garf Bonsai is encrusting like crazy and im starting to see little nubs of new branches.

Moved the Anemone to my dads tank. The clowns never took the plunge in it and I decided to go sps/acro heavy for my last few corals frags for awhile.
 
Ok so the algae isn't receding after 2 months of near undetectable nutrients so with the advice of others i'm leaning towards my source water as the main culprit. I've ordered another DI stage and a new resin for the existing one to get me to 6 stages. In the meantime without any tangs because the tank is so small im going to perform so surgery to the rocks to remove anything I can. @brandon429 posts here a lot and I've read a bunch of them and what he suggests seems to make sense. I'm going to scrape the rock free of algae and then peroxide where it was. Here are a few before pictures and I'll perform the procedure over the weekend and update.

we need that documentation for sure. Ive seen that red stuff just thousands of times, this is the exact metabolic course it charts if you weren't scraping: dose w peroxide, turns pink in about a week or nine days, falls off over the next month, then grows back as whiskers.

Im glad you'd try our surgery and pre modeling even before the run, as that starts the increments of actual work vs wait, which differs our system from any other. That red algae anchors deeper than the green does, its harder to effect a non growback run but it can be done. the risk in our system is growback, not loss during the surgery as its all a mix of the sand rinse thread and the cycling thread, which permits such work outside tank

If you took that rock its on and sawed the whole rock in half removing nothing, then the cross section + magnifier and a good spotlight will show exactly how deep the fronds and holdfasts run, its based on rock porosity, acidic etching by the plant itself to eat away rock and create holdfasts (and nutrient traps/detritus/ on site degredation and feed)

our little pre rasping (or, just hammering the hound out of it madman style first go) shows if we ourselves etched deep enough. When its done right, the rasp along will cure rooted requisite hitchikers because the only thing growing back from the peroxide-only treatments we've seen above are the holdfasts...the plant body itself will die from simple contact after the pink phasing.

The red stuff is incredibly hard to rasp off. Here is a picture after a good rasping session. I'll do this once a week till its gone right before a water change. And I accidently fragged the green birdsnest :D

I love a good challenge this is really beatable but dental-tool micropoint rasping seems busy work for sure.

I have a chem cheat in the sleeve. not literally as the burn would req hospital treatment :) but the truth is 35% was made for this type of wresting

it'll take all year to rasp it though if deep, your growback will be fractional for sure, worth it.

But if you take on the heinous personal safety risk which is securing 35% peroxide from any common healthfood store, in the refrigerator section, where they sell a chemical that people in Europe are not allowed to possess at this %, nor receive by mail, etc

well then you have the cheat of the year. 35% is all Ill use.

all the peroxide work we log online is 3%. Its safe to use, when someone spills it all over the cabinet, the floor and their legs its harmless.

when someone spills 35% the cabinet bubbles, your clothes turn white if they're colored, and your skin tingles for five hours but its only an illusion it w subside. there's a price to pay for spilling 35%

this stuff is what the danger symbol on the wall in a lab is for
I haven't used 3% in my tank in years, because ive no time for messing around with invaders.

it does not cause recycling, peroxide in any concentration we can access doesn't recycle rocks that's a huge misnomer in reefing and we're free to use 35% without killing your system as I spill it on my brain coral sometimes and it still doesn't die. you can be more careful than that. I have youtube videos of me putting 35% into my old reef without even removing rocks, im squirting in my reef, amazingly reefs are tolerant of it if we're careful. no other surface is other than glass, plastics. neutral there.

the 35% is only a risk to two things involving reefing:

-your eye
-a child's eye.


that's it.

its not a tank killer. Its the liquid lawnmower of the year in a bottle, but its a blinding agent Id choose bleach in my eye before this stuff wear glasses.

store it wherever you'd safely store a blinding agent, and dispose of it as a fine drain cleaner when you're done dont even keep it in the home around children unless its guarded by some kind of electrical field/laser cross beam alarm classic setup.

Couple of new shots with mostly blues as the lights are winding down for the night. Algae is definitely growing back but slowly. I'm not worried about, will do another peroxide session next weekend when I do a water change.

The Zoas, Acans, and Mushrooms are all growing like crazy. While cool my focus has shifted towards Sps and they are taking up prime real estate.

My Frogspawn finally split into two heads, and my pink hammer has started taking off as well, up to 4 1/2 heads.

The Birdsnest, pocci and Montis are growing pretty well. All my acros have great polyp extension and decent color but grow pretty slow. I will have to keep tweaking till im happy with growth. My ATO with Kalk fully saturated is now even alk consumption and my growth unfortunately so i'll have to dose soon.

Anyone have anything bad to say about the jebao dosers or should I get one a price grade up?

I'm looking at OctoAquatics (and others) for an acylic cover. Do you have any regrets about not getting a feed door? Anything you've learned from placing an order with them?

If I had to do it over I would get the feed door and a cutout for a wire in each back corner. I use mp10 but incase you want to switch brands you could.

I also agree with the sand. But now that i'm running barebottom I honestly cant imagine ever having sand again. The maintenance and keeping nutrients low is night and day better.

I agree. I was trying to imagine my tank with sand and it just did not seem right. I really do not even notice the lack of sand at all, but was wondering if others look at it the same way. Your tank looks great to me.

I really can't say enough about the @SantaMonica drop scrubber for a smaller tank. I run the lights for 6 hours a night and this is a weeks growth. My nitrates stay under 1 and my phosphates are .018-0.031 depending on how heavy i'm feeding.

This is my only form of filtration besides a little BRS rox carbon and bi weekly water changes. Maybe i'm drinking the Kool-aid but i'm sold.
 
Hey that's a great tank. When you had 1 Kessil 160 - did you feel it wasn't enough coverage?
