Kalkwasser help!

Yeah but I don’t see the point in using Kalk if I’m gonna have to dose 2 part also. My ph hasn’t really changed since dosing Kalk.

If your reef is still young, your corals wont use up as much cal/alk. You can use the starter dose reccomended on the BRS video. If your tank is already somewhat established you can start out with a higher dose. Good luck!

Are you using teaspoons or tablespoons? I believe you can dissolve up to 2 tbsp. of kalk to a gallon of H2O if you're only adding 2 teaspoons its likely you're not even close to providing what's being consumed.. unless of course that was a typo then disregard..

every tank is different so you may have to use less or more than someone else. I think I am just repeating what others have already said but a few points
1. the most you can dissolve in a gallon of water is 2 tsp
2. keep your tubing 1/2 to 1 in above bottom of container. you do not want to use the precipitate
3. rinse out your ato container each time you refill it
4. you do not need to keep stirring the ato during the week. once it is dissolved it is dissolved. (reactors have stirring mechanisms because they are constantly introducing new water)
5. test every day until you find the right balance to maintain your alk
6. do not attempt to raise your alk with KW. Its meant to maintain it once you get it to the levels you want. to do that, just use sodium bicarb
7. be prepared for your ato pump life cycle to be shortened a bit as a result of the KW.

Tank is well established 2 yrs old mixed reef. I’ve just been dosing 2 part til now.

I have a 120 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump. I consider it to be medium stocked but... there isn’t much room anywhere to put anything new so maybe it’s considered heavily stocked. I have alot of soft and lps coral and 8-10 sps. That’s the reasoning behind this post. Thought maybe I was doing something wrong. I have a 5 gallon ato container. I mix 10 teaspoons of Kalk into the 5 gallons of ro/di water weekly. I’ve tested my Kalk using Salifert daily for 3 weeks. I started out using 1 teaspoon per gallon but for the past week and a half I’ve used the max of 2 tsp per gallon and my levels have consistently dropped from 9-8.9 dkh daily. I’m still dosing 2 part to get it back to 9 daily but... I also don’t want to have to use both.

2 teaspoons is the recommended STARTING point

Like I said keep adding till it won’t dissolve anymore

And read a few articles on kalk by @Randy Holmes-Farley
Actually 2 teaspoons is the max that will dissolve in a gallon of water. If 2 teaspoons per gallon doesn't maintain your levels you should switch to 2 part

I have a TLF kalkreactor 300 hooked up to my tunze ATO and couldn't be happier. Just add the kalk, then add kalk every two weeks clean the reactor every 1.5-2 months and it's been great
