Kalkwasser or All-for-reef?

I used AFR and went back to kalk because it did a fantastic job with my pH which I have to fight for. Anyone else get a pH boosting effect from AFR?
Sorry to clarify... has anyone had good luck with AFR controlling pH? I have to fight to keep my pH up. Kalkwasser is the only thing that seems to work.

I dont think AFR will do much in controlling your pH. I was thinking about adding kalkwasser since I currently am dosing both AFR and some 2 part. I like your setup with the magnetic stirrer on the kalk. How often do you stir it?

I use both, kalk is good for ph boost but often demand exceeds what evaporated from the tank. I use A4R for the rest.
How did you start this? I’m using all for reef now but would like to raise my Ph with kalk. Should I back off my all for reef and start a certain amount of kalk to raise ph? I have a med stocked 29bio cube with keeping alk at 10.0 now but want the ph boost. Thanks

I would personally back off the a4r and see how much alk you’re losing a day then add in the kalk to hold alk at a steady level. While kalk raises ph you should dose based on alk consumption with the ph just being a benefit not a guide

2 years in AFR and it is great but not the fix all. You will need to supplement calc, alk, and mg occasionally. I am currently dosing 1mg of AFR per gallon per day and .5 ml of Sodium Hydroxide per gal per day and it keeps my levels where I want them. If you aren’t on a trident, I would just use AFR and not worry about it. The fact is if you’re running a smaller tank and not dosing, just doing regular water changes SHOULD be sufficient.

Thank you!!

Hi everyone,

I am starting a new nano tank, I want to try All-for-Reef instead of Kalkwasser. What is your opinion on this change?

I've using Kalkwasser and no complaints at all. But all I am reading about this new product is really good.

Thank you
Martin
I use AFR for my pico (6 net gallons) and have phenomal growth in SPS corals and coralline algae, the LPS open nicely but growth is slow compared to the SPS.
