Thoughts on power comparison? What do yall think 100% power for the a80 would compare to on the a360?

The a80 is a lot weaker than the a360x.
Unless you have a very shallow 12" tank, the a80 wont perform well depending on what corals you intend on keeping

A80 is 15 watts; the 360x is 90 watts. Start the 360 at 18% and see.

Question on this..I have a Mr.Aqua 22g long..36Lx9Wx12D..I'm planning on using 3 A80 over this tank in a custom canopy roughly 6"-8" from the surface rather than using the kessil arms..would this suffice for some deep water sps? Not my first rodeo with using kessil, and had great success with them in the past (360we & Ap700) I know using the kessil arm at 10-12" off the surface they put out around 140 par..but using 3 at roughly half the reccomend height I figured would be adequate enough to cover not only 36" of tank, but support sps without using overkill of lights..thoughts? Thanks

So Day on of the a360x, the corals are very upset. Ran it on about 13% peak. Also the tank is a 20L... I know the light is way overpowered for this size but i plan on upgrading in the near future. Any thought on acclimation to this light?

A very solid lighting option. I use A80’s over a 25 lagoon and have not had any health issues.

check out the BRS walkthrough when they show the office tanks, half are using A80’s

I’m also building a custom canopy to add T5’s.

You tank looks amazing!

Bump. I know this a bit of an old thread but it's addressing something I've been interested in. I have a 29gallon lagoon style tank 24x24x12 and I have a single a80 on it and have been contemplating upgrading to a a360x. I haven't seen the growth I would like and thought a more powerful light might help. But I like the idea of continuing using the light I have and just purchasing 2 more. Any one have thoughts on this? I like the idea of have the additional lights (a80s) vs a single strong one (a360x) for a better spread. It also makes sense that with my tank only being 12" deep that I wouldn't need a really strong light that has to penetrate deep water depth.

What corals do you have or want to keep? If it's softies and LPS, then you can add more a80's, but I would upgrade to the 360x, this will give you more options down the line.

I have various LPS and softies. Ricordia, acans, zoa, Frogspawn, chalice, Duncan, Goni. I also have some easy sps forest fire digis, and cyphastrea. I plan on keeping more LPS and hopefully stylophora and Monti. Seeing the 3 a80s looked like a great idea to me to get a good spread along with the tank depth being shallow. It seems like I'd be able to get enough par and spread with the shallow depth and multiple sources. What do you think? Right now I have all my corals all gathered around the single a80 since the spread isn't too wide and I just upgraded.

Thanks, sounds good. I've been trying to attriube the slow growth I've been having to the light. But with reading more and more posts about people having very successful tanks running a80s, it seems unlikely that's the issue. I figure that it must have to do with water chemistry at this point, but 2 more a80s wouldn't hurt. Appreciate the info and feedback @minus9

No problem. It could be a combo of both, light and parameters? I have the a80, so I can check with my Seneye and get some par #'s. I'm a long time Kessil user, so I'm aware of their capabilities. I've seen countless posts about these lights not being to grow coral, but for me, it comes down to user error and/or ignorance of how to use the lights. Btw, I like the minimal scape.

I think it must be. If you could post those results that'd be awesome. I've read the a80s give out a max of like 140 par 6" under the surface, if the light is basically right on top of the water (4inches or so). Right haha, there's so much hate on kessils for growing sps but I've seen too many testimony posts from people debunking this myth. It has to be ignorance of use. Thanks, I'm trying to add a few more pieces to add to the depth but not until I can get a better spread from my lights.

I recently upgraded from a short run 10-gallon with an A80 to a 40B. I wanted to try it out just adding another a80. Like you said, the haters were chirpin about Kessil with low par in deeper tanks 12"+.

The 40B has only been running about 3-4 weeks, but I've seen new zoos poppin' up. So I'd say A80's can handle growing softies in a 15" deep tank. I even have a Squamosa in the sand bed that looks great.

Note: I use a cheap clip on iphone yellow/pink lens on the close up shots. So they're not as bright, but you can see much more color.
