Picked a couple of these up to discourage my son from attempting to put his hands in my tank. I have a feeding portal so the only time I need to remove the screen is when Im working in the tank. There sold as refrigerator locks on Amazon and come with a key.

Great step in the right direction! Could only keep a freshwater when my little one grew up. More forgiving system for toy cars (various), remote control with batteries, just the batteries and lastly diapers (used). No fatalities! Kid has his own saltwater tank now!
I may have found a hammer in my tank once.

That won't stop your toddler from pouring coffee into the tank in the morning bc daddy needs his coffee therefore fishies must also need their coffee
Got a point there. I can’t prevent all bad things but this certainly helps my situation a bit.

I was more concerned about injuries to my kids. Not being able to pull anything over or look directly into the lights .... stuff like that. Never had them put anything into the tank that wasn’t supposed to be there.

Thats also a concern, which this helps with, reaching into the tank and touching something bad could hurt him.

My plan to “Kid Proof” my reef is to not have kids. All jest aside, it is very responsible for you to ask this question.

Considering the size of the little ones , you only need to worry about the sump and electricity. And that’s easy. I remember coming down with my boy on his tippy toes trying to push a toy car in the tank for the fish to play with. Same boy as before now a scuba diver advanced open water!

I have one on the stand doors too. My kid has autism and while he likes the fish a lot he can be pretty unpredictable. The more I can do to prevent possible issues thr better. I had a mason jar full of quarters he dumped into my tank that I had to fish out, twice!

I have a full wall unit with NO access from children are the doors are flush with no handles to pull
