Kid proofing a reef

The top of my tank is around 4 ft off the ground so I hopefully don't have to worry about the twins throwing things in as children. Glass lids. I do keep childproof latches on the stand doors to hopefully keep little hands out. The kids are my grandbabies and not here every day but I figured if they showed interest in the hobby I'd set up a small freshwater for them when they get to be old enough to learn how to come help take care of it.

I had a visiting child put pink playdough in my sump in my old tank. My hob skimmer went crazy overflowing onto the floor with pink skimmate(hob skimmer because sump was too small). Phosphates were high as could be. 50% water changes 3 days in a row got things under control. Lost a birdsnest and a frogspawn, other lps and a few acros I had at the time all pulled through. Lesson: put child locks on your cabinet if you have a sump in your stand. Current tank is plumbed to the basement, no access to any aquarium openings under 5’
