I suppose every fish, every situation is different. I have a five fish that ate every aptisia in my 28 gallon tank.
I put it in there just for that, it did a great job.
once thet were all gone, at least the visible ones i moved him to my 225 whicj
h had plenty, it never touced one in that thank. Found that a bit curious.

Any reason you didn’t go with a copperband?

My experience is that if you don't have a absolutely peaceful tank (IME no zebrasoma tangs), they just don't acclimate well. I tried them from a few different directions, just no success withem long-term. I've had other butterflies do fine with my 3 tangs, but they have to survive the tang hazing first.

And the only one chasing the Klein's Butterfly and keeps him near the back is the purple, my ony tang. Doesn't seem to bother the Klein's to much though. That was another reason going against the Copperband.

My Purple Tang goes after my Racoon Butterfly A LOT. More than any other fish he does not like the Racoon. My Naso has an issue with my Magnificent Foxface. My Purple is just a major jerk no matter what. My Naso never bothered anyone else, but he dislikes the Foxface.

2 Week update:

For the first week Bluey(his name) stayed towards the back of the tank, didn't touch the Aiptasia. I saw him hovering over the corals and picking on the Pocillopora...oh boy...
The purple tang was still showing him who's the King of the castle every now and then.
Comes the second week and Bluey is getting more adventurous, swimming now all over the tank.
In the matter of 3 days he destroys my Aiptasia population, at first it looked like him destroying all my Blasto's but he just picked all the Aioptasia inbetween. He had a nibble at my Desh, but got put in his place by my two pygmi angels who share the desh between them. However the desh seems to go alright.

So far Bluey took care of the Aiptasia and leaves the majority of corals be and even the ones he is nipping on every know and then seem to hold up.

Fingers crossed it stays like that

4 week update:

Bluey made it into the sump.
Took me a whole week of setting fishtraps, multiple hour long chaseswith nets of all sizes, my nerves ,sleepless nights and suffering corals but tonight I caught him and he's relocated to the sump.

So what happened. All the Aiptasia bar one are gone, but the little bit of nipping right from the start developed into a full on taste of everything. While he first only nipped the pocilloporas, in week 3 he started eating my rock flower nem, desh, scolly, toadstool, utter chaos zoas, pallys, blastos, adhesive nem, tubinaria, leptoseris, mini maxis...

He had to go. To every one who warned me, I admit my defeat and yes you were right. So who ever said he'll eat all of it, you were right as well.

So beware, blue head or not, the Klein's Butterfly loves aiptasia but corals of all sort too, at least Bluey did. Would not recommend as Aiptasia treatment, I got lucky I got him out of the tank.

Yup. It's my warning to all... BTDT. But they are effective as hell with aiptasia eradication.
