Hello! I just made this account now because I'm concerned about my clownfish. My tank finally cycled, and I just got him a week ago. He is the first fish in the aquarium, and the only one, although I do have inverts. I don't have any corals or anything, really it's just rock only. I know this is a reef forum, sorry.

Anyway, I did a water change the other day and accidentally spiked the salinity too high for a bit (I am very new to this), I don't know if that has anything to do with this. Today, I noticed one large raised dark spot on my clown Julius' face :(

I've done research, and it doesn't look like anything I could find. It's too big to be black ich, I think, and it's only the one spot. It's definitely not a sting because there is nothing to sting him.

I ordered prazipro online and just did a freshwater dip for 5 minutes but could not see any parasites coming off. Idk what this is, so I have no idea what to do. Anyone have any advice? Or ideas about what this is?

I'm trying to put up a better picture

It's that spot above his eye

Welcome to R2R!

I am no expert, but I will get the questions started.

How is he behaving otherwise?
Is the spot just a spot or is it raised?
Any anemones or other corals that sting?
Do you have a QT?
Do you have any meds on hand?

I will let the experts weigh in, but I saw something similar on the forum within the past few days and it ended up being bacterial.

The real experts will comment soon and get you going in the right direction.

I’m curious also about that patch on his side behind his fin. is this just the picture or is there a spot there also?

I didn't notice anything in person, it is probably a shadow, something on the tank wall, or just my terrible phone camera!

When I spiked the SG, he was acting weird. However, since he got over that, he has been acting fine, even after the spot appeared. He is eating and swimming around like normal! I forgot to mention, he had a long think string hanging from his belly, and I freaked out thinking it was a worm. It could have just been feces, but I also read that intestinal parasites can make their poop look like that. I have no clue what their poop normally looks like lol

Spot is raised, almost looks like a donut, but I can't tell. Nothing like that that could have stung him.

I don't have a QT tank or meds on hand, but I will certainly get those things in order to help him.

Thank you so much for your reply!

Ok, for the long stringy white poop you’ll need General Cure, Focus, and a Garlic additive.
Mix the GC and Focus with frozen food (thawed) and use a drop of garlic to mask the taste of meds. You’ll need to feed this to him for 14 days.
Thaw out a cube of frozen and flatten it out, take a scoop of focus and put it in the food. Let it soak in for 5 min or so, then I gently mix it up and flatten out the food again. Then you can put the GC on the food and let it sit again (so it binds). Add a drop of garlic and feed them. You can then refreeze the prepped food to thaw out for the next feeding and so on. One batch usually holds for 4-5 days, you’ll know when it’s no good anymore by appearance.
As for the spot you can start dosing the trifecta as @Big G recommended. You can source all of these meds on Amazon. (You also use Metroplex instead of GC since you’ll be ordering it anyways. )

TBH with you saying it’s raised(possible sloughing skin) I’m wondering if it’s the start of Brooklynella. You can treat Brook with Metroplex (2 scoops per 10G) for 14 days and the other two Antibiotics will cover bacterial infections. You will need a QT and if this is brook you’ll have to leave your DT fallow for 6 weeks.

Does the spot look like it’s his skin, like discolored? Or like it’s on top of the skin?

This may sound dumb, but I have never done this before: if I mix this medicine with the frozen food, won't it just come off in the water? Or is there a special way I should feed it to him?

It's raised, almost looks like when you get a cut and it swells up around the cut. I can't say for sure, though. It could be just sitting on the skin... I have terrible eyesight

The method @Frtdrmrose7 stated should bind the meds to the food. You can also pick up a product called Seachem Focus which assists with the binding.

Yes Focus is needed to bind meds to food. It’s easy to do
