Looking good Lasse! Love the pics details even the out of focus.

Thank You

I do not use a fancy camera - only an Olympus Tough 3 - but it has some advantages according to pictures of an Aquarium and its inhabitants.

Very interesting project. The decision to organize a nitrification system for the rear window is striking in its reasonableness. Excellent tank and excellent work. I continue to observe the evolution of ....

Thank you @Aleks

The tank is around 4 months old now and I have got some readings of different parameters. At the moment PO4 is around 0 - 0.06 and NO4 around 16 - 30. Redox at the plenum -> around -20 mV. pH around 8.1 - 8.4. Temp around 25 degree C. Ca 440 - KH around 8. Some corals work well - and as usual - some not. The micro life is very good, lot of different invertebrates. I ad iodine and a gel of planktonic algae every day. I harvest some algae from the refugium every week.

Last time (a couple of months ago) it was 1360. As long as I have no problems with calcium - magnesium leves is not a issue for me.
Sincerely Lasse
Yes, I agree, magnesium fairly stable in the system if all is normal with calcium .......

It looks like my different methods to export nutrients works very well. My NO3 has going down from around 75 ppm to app 1 ppm today. In spite of the fact that I the last two weeks had add app 2 ppm NO3 every day. My phosphate lever vary between 0.1 – 0.03 ppm as PO4. The main method is growing macro algae in the backside of the aquarium.

I harvest around 1 bucket of mainly chaeto each second week

One of my goals with this aquarium was to establish an environment there sponges and other filtration animals flourish. The aquarium is full of filtration tube worms of different species and size and today I discovery a large black sponge, backside a coral.

A couple of days ago I purchase a stone with two small read sponges at the side - yes - I got the stony coral come with too :) . But – it was the sponge I wanted :)

One of my dreams is to have Zooas growing all up the backside – this maybe will be a start

I look forward to updates Lasse! It is frustrating when there is coral loss and no idea why it happens, is it not? Do you mean organic carbon dosing? Are you using skimmate as source or what is your organic carbon source?

I use skimate as a source in the beginning - the idea was to build up a bacteria population below the DSB. After a while I start to use a combination between alcohol, sugar and vinegar. Just now I have stopped all organic carbon sources – probably I will start with skimate again. I want to build up a bacteria population and an environment that will act as an internal organic carbon source. It will take time – I know.

What kind of fast internal carbon source would the bacterial population create? I would think that CO2 is the easiest, though maybe not most desirable, but there a lot of corals that can use this directly without conversion to bicarbonate. Just wondering what you think would work the best as internal carbon source that a bacteria does not want? That is a hard one, I know you have the answer and that it will take time, but really cool nonetheless. Essentially you are trying to create a small little world in your tank system. Wow!:cool::cool:
