I wasn't trying to start another MH vs. LED argument just trying to be funny. I run MH and I am happy with them.

No worries about that. Mh results speak for themselves. Is heat that bad from them? I have never really been around them for more than a few seconds. This tank is right next to where I sit on the couch all the time so heat is an issue since I am a hot natures freak.

If you're going to be sitting next to/under a MH I wouldn't recommend halides for that application if you don't like the heat and humidity (from evap) that halides would produce. If I was sitting next to the fixture while trying to relax and not get excess heat I would look at T5s or LEDs.

No nothing like that MH it seems you get quicker results with them.

A fool knows you can't touch the stars, but a wise man still reaches.

Cant really say as i havent seen them all but id say something full spectrum. I just run royal blues and cw with a blue+ and coral + and colors were way better than a 250w pheonix bulb with t5. Get something reputable that you can afford like diy or reefbreeders. If money is no issue then the radion pros look killer. They are the best looking led only lights ive seen personally.

I used MH for 2 years, 250 watt (Phoenix), then went to T5, and then Radion Gen 2; I will never use anything but LED's ever again. Like I posted earlier, I just received the OR Arctic LED fixture but I have yet to set it up, there is no way that I can claim any type of growth/coloration, yet. The OR fixture does "look" very promising.

You still using your radion? Was it worth the money?

Yes, I have it over my DB 30 cube; the controllability of the Radion is unmatched and super simple to set up. Everything about the Radion is worth the money, IMO. I have gotten the best coloration out of SPS, Chalices and rainbow acans under the Radion.

Thanks for all of the good info so far guys. Anybody who is using a reef keeper having problems with their LEDs flickering? I have read a few fixtures have had this issue.

I am using a Reefstar. It is sold on my local forum, the guy Kenny is really nice and loves to help with the setup, it covers a 24x24 area and is just under $300. Uses 1w LEDs mainly blue and white that are dimmable, it also has 4 red and some sweet moonlights.
I can't find any new info on the ReefStar LED's. I saw there was a conversation about them back in April-ish and it sounded really good. Basically the typical 55x3's, but a 3rd channel for moonlights. Any way to get in touch with those folks?

Mac

Just have to message him on the pnwmas forum, I have his number I can pm you. He offers two lights that I know of. The one I have with the 1w LEDs, which he prefers, or the 3w which costs less.

I'm a newbie so I wanted something simple for a FOWLR tank (with the possibilities of coral in the future) at a reasonable price. Did my research, this is what I'm going with: Marineland Reef Capable LED Lighting System - WITH TIMER Aquarium LED Light Fixtures ecoxotic (is that how it's spelled?) has an amazing one on amazon but I have an 29 gallon nano and they didn't have anything small enough to fit across my 18" wide tank.

Good luck,
Kate

Check out www.rapidled.com. Better lighting, more options, better prices.

It's the ReefKeeper, not the lights.

Digital Aquatics has an official thread addressing this...but it's not a problem per se. Supposedly something called a triac is involved with the switching of the RK's low-current outlets and they are inherently prone to this. Someone more in-the-know than me would have to explain why some other solution isn't used since this "quacks like a defect" even if it isn't one.

The simple solution, Digital Aquatics says, is to hook up a surge suppressor on the RK outlet and plug the flickering device into that.

Hope this helps!

Sounds good. Thanks for the help.

The color is VERY nice actually. He runs 2 on his tank and they are perfect. If I had to get more I would probably go with those revive.

I second this. I have one of those lights on my 45 cube and its really nice... Great customer service as well. My first light came and there was something wrong with my drives for the blue actinic. The owner 2nd day aired me a replacement as well as sent me a return packaging label for the first.

Lights are like everything else in this hobby, you get what you pay for  Easiest thing to do is set yourself a budget for lighting XXX amount. Do the research and buy the best possible lighting that will meet your tanks needs depending what you have in the tank and what goals for the tank are in the future.
