LED vs LEP lighting

My point had nothing to do with MHs. Which someone seems very touchy about. My point is that this experiment is very flawed and not much can be surmised from its data because of those flaws. Even if they were able to keep the testable water parameters the same, which I highly doubt they did, how about the variables not tested. And what about a knowable control? Don't get defensive, it's not your experiment.

I wasnt getting defensive just everytime someone brings up mh vs led arguments start. Which ur trying to do by calling me out. I never said u by name a cpl mentioned MH.

But just because they didnt use mh and T5 doesnt mean its flawed. It just shows what those lights do. Its not meant to be a hey leds are the best experiment.

This experiment is more about the spectrum and irradiance effect on the different corals, so it doesn't really matter if it's MH or not...

refer to table:
Table 1. Two-way factorial ANOVA, showing main and interactive effects of spectrum and irradiance on specific growth rates of 10 different scleractinian coral species (N=6). SGR: Specific growth rate.

for some corals,
The right spectrum is important: eg: Acanthastrea lordhowensis
The right Irradiance is important: eg: Acanthastrea lordhowensis again!
some.. both are important: Montipora digitata

it's really nice to know this fancy stuff. lol

LEDs rule mh suck no wait a min. t5 rule and leds suck awe forget it its just light they all grow corals lol

Again, I couldn't care less what they compared. They could be comparing growth between corals sprinkled with fairy dust and corals sprinkled with voodoo powder. It makes no difference. Their data only assumes that the lighting is the only different variable, and that's just not good science. Then they compare two of the newest types of lighting out there without some kind of control to compare both to. I am only critiquing their scientific method, not what they are comparing. I personally wouldn't trust any of the data. This is all I'm saying.
And I am sorry gmoney243 for calling you out, I was under the impression that comment was directed at me alone.

No worries man and ur welcome to disagree with the data i just didnt want this turning into another closed thread about led vs mh haha.

Palegic said it nicely above its not really about the lighting type as it is about how the corals react to spectrum and intensity and all these studies about corals help us understand more about the corals.

And your probly right theres gona be some difference in growth from other factors but its still something nice to know and whille it may not be exact they tried their best and its more about how the leds did at low intensity vs led at high intensity and how the corals react to those factors and not how the two lighting types compare.
