Huh. Not sure where you got the AI info. Mine are running all 70 degree optics. And at 24" deep my par is 200. with the AIs at 70%. Bricks are 12" ABWL (thats 36"). One brick will easily cover a 2x2 cube. IMO. Love the topic by the way. I am still considering adding one Radion though. I am waiting for the par numbers before I make a decision. I want to make sure I can get at least 200 par at 20". :byebye:
 
I'll be following along for this one as well. How often are you going to be posting updates?

No set schedule in terms of updates-- but as things progress you'll hear (and see) about it :bigsmile:
 
I was talking from my experience with them. On one of my tanks with a canopy hanging them 10"+ above the water line was not an option. As for the spread comment, it was coming from my comparison with my previous sol blues being 4" away from the water line vs. the radion being 4" away from the water line. There is no spotlighting with the radion at this distance and it has a better spread. The AIs look great over the display at the store, however they are hung 15" away from the waterline. Both are great units. My comment may not have been worded quite so well.

Its pretty and all but you've allowed to many variable for it to be a true representation. Should have done it in 2 tanks or at least separated the 2 halves with some kind of opaque material. In the middle you're basically going to have a blend of both lights. As far as the corals i would have made some kind of rack and places the same corals from each light type as very specific intervals in the tank. I'm sure it will still turn out with good results and I'm sure you weren't planning on publishing results or anything like that. Just some constructive criticism.

Awesome display. That tank is gorgeous. It is becoming apparent that led technology is making its way to an established tool for our hobby. Great work and thanks for sharing. It's nice to see an actual established tank comparison of the two
 
Good talking to you today on the led experiment just found this page the leds are doing pretty well any idea what species of acros do significantly better looks like strawberry shortcake (acropora micrclades) for sure. I think I will swap out a few halides have 5 on ten feet now
 
Very interesting witnessing the growth and coloration of the corals with both technologies. Can't wait to see updates on this in the future. Great job, keep up the hard work!

nvfishman- I'm sorry I didn't see your post sooner! There are a handful of sps corals that we put on both sides (same species on each side to see how they differ) and so far it's hard to say which are doing better. Very subtle differences in color. In my own tank it makes no sense at all- I've got a red mille that is just as red under LEDs as it ever was under metal halides but there's another green mille that I got a couple months ago and it refuses to color up so go figure. Slimer, purple monster, seriatopora, pocillipora, setosa, capricornis, spongodes- they all look the same as they did under metal halides after 5 months under LEDs. Growth also just about the same I'd estimate.
