My 280 gal tank has 6 Radions Gen 2. I have been using them over 5 years without any problems.

This is a picture of my tank.

RussiReef, are those the only lights you have? If not, what else?

Nice box!

LEDS generally have a lifespan of 50,000+ hours with proper maintenance and cleaning. Most of the time when they fail prematurely its due to overheating from dust collecting on the heat sink. And don't get me wrong there is always that handfull of special cases where the light just went out for no apparent reason...unfortunately it happens :)

I think that is wishful thinking. I have used an 'expensive' Hong Kong made LEDs, good quality build, on my tank and the LED failures started at around 4,500 hours ... just the 'white' lamps, blue ones never failed. Units were well maintained.

In domestic lighting applications, LEDs don't get anywhere near the claimed life span of 50k hours.

'expensive' doesn't always mean good.. ;)
Quality builds will not fail at 4500 hours...

Anyways I've also had whites fail in high numbers but cheap eek bay (under 50 cents each) varieties..
Odd thing I guess is blue and white (blue w/ phosphors) are not really mechanically/electrically really different.

household bulbs have the issue of power conversion over the diodes (all in relatively same space)
so heating is an issue.
Also had small emitters singly fail on large density boards..

Yea, many suck big time. That said had many large LED floods (30W or greater) lasting over 2 years @ 10 hrs/day and counting..
some (say 10-20% I'd have to add them up) did fail early..
Seems pretty random..

Point is properly designed/manuf LED are capable of a very long lifespan.. as I noted earlier..
