Hello,

About 3 weeks ago a bought this a lepto and it was doing really well. It even expanded a bit. Today I’m looking at it and I saw some white things on it that look like some skin peeling (I might be wrong). It mainly at the tips of the coral.

What does this mean and what should I do?

Assure alk and ca not low as well as salinity
Blow with turkey baster to assure its not particulate

Ca = 440
Alk = 9
and salinity is 1.025

I blew it with a Turkey baster and it doesn’t seem to be any particulate matter. It seems that only the tips of the coral are being affected right now.

Please help me, I really love this coral and I want to save it.

That specific coral likes lower light and flow. Try moving it down to the sand bed in the corner of the tank till it recovers. Like always, keep your parameters steady and it should do ok.

That's a beautiful piece. I have ever seen one with the raised areas like this one. I have not had luck with leptos. Mine would always start off ok then just bleach and die. The one I have now is pretty much fully shaded and doing good so I definatly think low light to prevent bleaching

It’s currently receiving about 90 PAR. Could it possibly require less?? The flow is definitely not an issue. It’s about 3-4 cm from the sandbed.

My nitrates and phosphates are 0 though

You could take another picture now and see if they've moved, but you likely could blow some off with a strong blast from a baster or pick one off with tweezers if they were.

that's ur problem the coral has no food

Can you get more pics under white lights. They could be the coral’s mesenterial filaments. Corals extend these when they feel stressed or hungry. Mine did this when chemical warfare became a major problem in the tank. After a water change, it stopped and got better. Once you find the source of your problem and fix it, the filaments usually disappear quickly.

Here are the photos under white light. I looked closely and they’re definitely strings coming out of the coral.

I am currently battling Dinos and haven’t done a water change in about a month. Also, I haven’t changed out the filter socks too. Do you think the toxins are coming from the dying Dinos in the filter socks?

To battle dinos again, you need to get your po4 up and your no3 up, need to change your filter socks everyday. How are you actually battling the Dinos.
Edit: yes could be toxins.
Do you know what dinos you have?

I actually have bee overfeeding so so much yet the nitrates and phosphates are not increasing. I thought that by not changing the filter socks, I’m allowing for the mysis and other stuff that get to the filter socks to turn into nitrates (after turning into ammonia). No matter what I do, the nitrates and phosphates are legit not increasing at all

Seems to be elevated in the tank. They do best at lower third of tank under moderate light and water flow
Temp 77-79
salinity 1.025
ph 8.1-8.3
alk around 9

Oh I see now.
Definitely got ticked off but it should return to normal. You do need to get your NO3 po4 up
What are things that can tick a coral off and cause it to react this way? Any inconvenience?
