Thank you! The Royal/Angular I agree for sure. The second one was sold as filamented wrasse. I can't find much info under that name. Perhaps that's the same as carpenters? Thanks again.

Jahalu, take a look at the "yellowfin" flasher Paracheilinus flavianalis, and see if it matches this fellow. He looks like a prime example to me!

Agreed, P. flavianalis for sure. All the other i.d.'s prior to this are correct.

I picked these potters wrasses a couple weeks ago and wanted to see if anyone can tell if they are male and female pair.

Potters leopards can be a bit difficult to pinpoint whether they are an initial phase male or a large female. The markings on their face are striated and no longer spotted, and their body depth is getting thicker but not at the proportions of a terminal phase male. They appear to be on the verge of being males.

However, regardless of gender, wrasses don't form male/female prs as other fish do. Instead, gender is determined by social qeues, where the male shows it's dominance to females by displays, chasing, and a degree of aggression.

Very nice! As mentioned they will not form a pair, but one will be nominate and there maybe some chasing etc....are they eating yet? I like the Twistii Tamarin too. Did you get them from AV?

Hunter I enjoyed your speech at the LIRA meeting. Did you mention that their are certain wrasses that once they turn males can't turn back to females? Thanks Mike, yes I picked them up at AV and got them to eat frozen food within a few days. Do you think they will both turn male or one will turn back to female?

Once they are male it is a rare occurrence for them to revert back.

Yes, it's technically possible when they are a transitional male, but don't expect that to happen in captivity.
Once a terminal male, it's not possible.

Me and fishman bought 1 each .I put one in my tank and my potters (im guessing male) they were all nice with swimming agound together for about 5 minutes ,then my older one beat the crap outta him so im guessing mine def was a male i had him for about 3 years now .i held him in my fuge for a few days then decided not to try again because he was eating and doing well i didnt want to take the chance and kill him ,i gave him to fishman in hoping to trade for the one he bought but when he added mine they were cool with each other and i guess we will just leave them together.

Oh and thanks for coming to lira great speech evolved ,i went and got 2 female flames from aquarium village ,one already looks like its turning i saved a few bucks not having to buy a termale male

AV gets some really nice fish and coral in ....what will probably happen is the more dominate will turn terminal while other will revert back or most likely stay in transition. I have a few like that because my Ornate is the dominate Leopard and won't allow any others to fully turn. I got to make it to a meeting one of these days I would have really enjoyed meeting and listening to Hunter's presentation.
