How old do you think she will be before she will start to eat inverts. I have sexy shrimp and she hasn't shown any interest so far. The sexy shrimp also have my rose BTA for protection.

I'd give it 6 months to a year, with sexy shrimp being a perfect start...

How would you recommend catching him when it is time?
I am very mad at my self:mad: I let my instincts take over even though all I knew was that she is reef safe. I should have done more research.

I don't know them to be aggressive either.


Halichoeres alongside them should be okay.
Dragon wrasse is certainly more aggressive, and considerably more destructive. They're called the "rock mover wrasse" for good reason. Putting one in a reef tank is akin to inflicting punishment on yourself.

I have a red coris with a H. nebulosus, H. rhodonotus, and H. melanarus, as well as a Hologymnosus rhodonotus, mystery, quinquevittatum, and a couple Cirrilahbrus wrasses. No issues between any of them whatsoever. Red coris was first in the tank among those, I believe. I previously had a dragon wrasse in there too, and he was fine as well.

If it's not apparent, this is NOT a reef.

So I saw a full size terminal male Black Fin Fairy wrasse, I believe the Fiji variant today at a local pet store for $100. I didn't buy because I was unsure if it would be ok with my halichoeres poeyi. Was $100 a good price and would it have been a decent match in a 150 gallon tank?

Well, black fin fairy wrasses, C. melanomarginatus, isn't found in Fiji, so if it's a melanomarginatus, than it it is not from Fiji, and if it is from Fiji than it is likely C. scottorum. Both are larger fairy wrasses and can be pushy to other fairy or flasher wrasses, but a Halichoeres should be fine. In fact H. poeyi may be a little pushy to the fairy.

$100 is a fair price for a male melanomarginatus, it is a good price for a male scottorum.

Do you think 1 would do well with halichoeres wrasses?
Would you say that a dragon wrasse has a similar temperament to a red corris or are they more aggressive?

I've never owned a dragon wrasse but my "mother" had one for a few years that didn't bother anyone. I've never liked them much so I didn't do a lot of research on them so I don't know how helpful I am with that query, perhaps someone else could chime in!

In the 1-2 phase, have had 1 since Oct I think, but hasn't changed to what we see in pics. Love mine and looks like yours, has brightened a bit and is the dominant wrasse in my DT but not a bully.

I just traded a dragon wrasse in, I loved it but he loved to move every loose rock I had and killed 2 frags burying them in the sand while I was at work. But I really liked him
