Let Me ID Your Wrasse!

I work at my LFS, and none of us know what this guy is lol. sort of embarrassing, but it's been two weeks since we've had him. (please don't ask me why he isn't on invoice, I don't know. [emoji19] )

here's a super short video of him. he's the one with the yellow band near his tail fin.

he's under 4 inches, so not a coris, as he'd still be that pretty orange the juvies are.

It's a chiseltooth wrasse, Pseudodax moluccanus, they are pretty peaceful, and can get up to 8".

Looks like a male C. temminckii.

Can anyone tell me the sex and if it has adult colours?

It is a female, the orange stripes will deepen in color. It will lose the eye spots on the dorsal and caudal peduncle. It will also develop vertical patterning on the back half of the body that interrupts it's horizontal stripes.

TJ's description is spot on in regards to how males differ from females, but looking closely at your picture and it has began to transition already. Therefore I would say it is sub-male.
If you are looking to get another of the same species, I would first caution against it. But if your mind is set, then you certainly only want a female regards of the sex of your current specimen.

Love all the colors that these guys have in their fins. Mine has a rainbow going on when the light reflects of his dorsal fin. Very cool fish!

Actually, it's Halichoeres melasmapomus. Xanti is a junior synonym of melasmapomus.
