Does C. rubripinnis sometimes have a small black dot at the base of the tail?

Yes. Females and transitioning males have it.

A female in the rubriventralis complex. Beyond that we'll have to wait and see.

Yup.
It has some hints of Kwazulu, but there's no way I'd place a bet on anything at this point.

Female H. nebulosus. The pink on the belly is the difference.

Thx eatbreakfast! I was looking in both of my wrasse books ( Michael's and Kuiter's) and the pics showed both with pink on the stomach, so I wasn't sure.. can you tell if she is still a juvenile? I really appreciate your help!

Came into my LFS as a melanarus but almost certainly not. H. chrysotaenia, maybe or even H. argus? Or something else?

What are the odds of this guy coexisting with a larger established melanarus?

H. argus. Similar, slightly more peaceful temperament to melanurus. I"ve kept argus and melanurus together without issue. However, personalities of individual melanurus specimens can vary greatly. Definitely utilize a social acclimation box for introduction.

Thanks. My melanarus is pretty mild mannered. I've got a T. quinquevittatum that may be more of a concern, but he is bigger than the melanarus and leaves him alone, so hopefully this guy would escape notice in my 260 FOWLR, but I do have a social acclimation box.

I would be much more concerned with the T. quinquevittum. Beautiful fish, but they can be outright demonic toward other wrasses. I'm glad yours is pretty chill.

Local fish store said the shipment names him a Sri Lankan christmas wrasse but me and the guy at the store could find one like home online anywhere. Featuring a photo bomb from my pig cleaner wrasse.

P.s. the pink patch on his belly turns bright red periodically

Just looking for some confirmation on the new wrasses I picked up today...

Leopard Wrasses:

Blue Stripe / Threadfin (Temminckii) Wrasse: (sold to me as temminckii name only, internet seems to think it's blue stripe / threadfin?)
