It is the Cebu variant of C. lubbocki.

I am currently looking for an id on my wrasse. I do not have a pic yet but I bought him as a red coris. However, on a red coris the body is well... red. Mine is black. Has the same white spots but is black instead of red. His fin that runs along the bottom has a faint flouresent blue streak to it when the light hits it.

Sounds like a juvenile Coris formosa.

I will get one tonight. After looking at pics it has the same exact body shape, size, and pattern but it all black. All the juveniles ive seen tend to have some brown across the body which mine does not. Also mine is about 4" so not sure if he is considered juvenile still.

hmm not a ton of info on it.. would it coexist with a biocellatus in a 50 cube?

are they rare? difficult to keep?

What color are the ventral fins? Red or black?

If they are red, C. rubeus, black, C. joanallenae.

Not that rare. Kept a couple in the past. Males are distinctly different. Care is like the rest of the Halichoeres, and should be okay with biocellatus.

Mine's been with me for about 3-4 months. Has had the same habits and activity level as the H. melanurus we lost a week ago, though a little on the shy side. She might be transitioning to male now, since black markings are appearing on her sides.
