Any chance that you can tell if these are melanurus or vrolik’s juveniles? Or one of each? They were both sold to me as vrolik’s but look to me juvenile melanurus. I can’t find anything on the web about the juvenile vrolik’s so I have no images for comparison. The first two images are of one and the last two images are of the other.

As it is only the pattern on the caudal that is distinct between the two species, these need to be more developed before that judgment can be made.
The fish out of focus in the background of the first photo is melanurus.

I figured it was probably a long shot on being able to differentiate the juveniles between the two. I am hoping they are in fact vrolik's and am looking forward to seeing for sure as they mature. Do you know where they came from, meaning collection region? That would also answer it, but short of that, impossible to say just yet.

I do not, but actually, you mentioning that does make me feel a little more confident in them actually being vrolik’s since I had my LFS order them in for me and they were not just fish that had been sitting in the LFS from their normal order.

This my Wrasse that I had for 2 years since she was just over 1.5 inch long. She was sold to me as a Melanurus Wrasse, which for sure she is not. She is now 5 inches long, very fat and healthy. First picture was when I first got her. The rest are pictures over the last few days. I tried to get pictures of the face and tail and also pictures of the body marking.
Can she be a hybrid?

Still intrigued by this mystery.
I do not know of any instances of hybridization in Halichoeres, but there's also no reason I am aware of for it not to occur.

I was researching new Wrasses for our 180 and came across a photo of this guy. It's the only one I have found that looks like this. It almost reminds me of the red coris, but it doesn't seem to be as slender and long as the red coris. Can you help?! I'm IN LOVE and hoping it isn't one that's too big for my tank. Unless I am completely off and it's actually a tang! Hahaha!

Was told by the LFS that it was a "flasher wrasse" and could not get any specific species. White belly, red top, will turn the color of my sand when it rests.
