Nice! That build seems pretty straight forward. Did you use that as the backbone and then put wood on the outside to finish it?

That's a pretty good idea, any pictures of the interior showing how you reinforced it?

If you roll your own, use 316 stainless steel marine grade decking screws rather than contractor grade steel screws. Otherwise you risk having the screws rust and mar a nice finish. I also suggest WoodRX for the stain. WoodRX stain has worked better than anything I have seen for shedding water off of lumber.

I actually left the back open and the front is just a panel that comes right off. The only thing i messed up was i did not pay attention to the dimensions on the inside and since i used 4x4s for the corners it did not leave me space to fit the 20g long sump like i wanted ;Facepalm. Yes, with the three-way corner fasteners and bolts going into three bars, it is very sturdy. I'm in an apartment now and moving in about 3 weeks, so it being lightweight and easy to move is a huge plus. I like that it can be disassembled if necessary and that it's modular. I added these light bars when I moved into my current place. I had my light suspended from brackets on the wall in my last place, but didn't want to deal with patching holes when I move out.

40B isn't so heavy you have to worry too terribly much about structure. You can do the 2x4 route or just plywood box like a kitchen cabinet is built. Or like above, find any decent cabinet at a store.

Here's my home built stand and matching canopy for my standard 40g breeder. I went with a very clean minimalist look. I currently still have the stand open so everything underneath is visible, but that could be changed if desired.

It's built of virola wood planed to dimensions of 3" x 1.75". Joints are held together by means of wooden "dominoes" (a type of mortice & tenon joint), kreg jig screws, and wood glue.

I purposely choose to NOT place the top spans on top of the legs since this design makes the top look heavy, imo. The spans are abutting the sides of the legs. The profile of the stand is a square such that with the tank on top the combination forms a rectangle 3 units tall and 2 units wide.

It received three coats of a waterproof clear-coat sealer.

Bottom shelf is marine grade plywood. Bottom spans are 3" otf the floor to allow for a toe kick.

Just for the record, the canopy is still in progress. It won't look so messy when it's done and the Hydra 26 modules will be recessed and less visible.

Lighting is 4x t5 bulbs and two Hydra 26 hd modules.

If I could go back in time I’d buy another 40 gallon and use that as a sump. Of course I’d build the stand to accommodate it.
