So many options out there. DIY and custom. Some really cool DIY sumps on this page. Lots of creative and skilled hobbyists. I prefer custom personally due to aesthetics of acrylic sumps. Big fan of GEO and Synergy Products. I have sumps from both for different builds. Functionally both DIY or custom options will do the job. Personal preference and costs may be considerations as well as turn around times depending on your need.

It is a little hard to photograph... two plywood sumps each 4 x 2 x 2 connected with a 4 inch PVC pipe. Just boxes with rails and a simple bubble trap at one side. Perched atop the first sump are two roller matts and four filter socks and a kalk stirrer. The other sump holds the skimmer, and currently running some carbon and experimenting with an algae scrubber. Some day, I will organize all the cords. The calcium reactor is on the floor between to two sumps.

Had 2 tanks with sumps underneath. Hated maintenance. Hard to get to and I just avoided it. Love mainenance now. Easy to get to is the key for me. I am big and old.

Hello, mine is a very simple crystal 30, octopus 110, Tunze auto top off, filter sock, BRS CO2 scrubber helps keep pH steady. Center chamber refugium.
