im planning the front of my stand and would love to see how everyone finished theirs. I'm interested in the frame of the front, how you attached it (with pics if possible) and details about the doors and how you mounted them. You're an amazing, talented crew and I need some inspiration!

Here is mine. It is a steel stand with the cabinet panels held on by magnets. The stand has no center brace so it is wide open when I pull the panel. The front and sides have matching style doors.

Doors are being held with cabinet catches i think they're called.

I used spring loaded hinges but will probably add the catches shown above. Here are a couple of shots of the magnets I used.

They are 35mmx5mm with a countersunk hole in the middle and I picked them up on Amazon. They work pretty well but the front magnets won't quite keep the panel from sliding down.

Did you use a router to make the hole in the wood?

I used the 1 3/8" forstner bit that I needed for the hidden hinges and it worked perfect.

I decided to go a little out of the traditional. I wanted full access to my sump area without the restriction of the front brace and did not want to have big doors in the way when I'm working in the area. I'm still working on it and have to get a top coat (or piano veneer) put on it.

Here's the cabinet I built. I used reclaimed Barnwood to finish it out.

6 per door. Each door is 5 1/2 x almost 3 ft

When I built my stand in 2008, I used standard cabinet hinges on all three doors on the stand. These require a 3/8 inch rabbet (grove) on the edge of the door to fit properly (standard kitchen cabinet look). I've had to replace these hinges once already because of rust, and I've just recently took this second set off and sanded and painted, again, because of rust.

Since building my stand, I built an equipment cabinet to the side of the tank. Instead of hinges, I put two pins (dowels) on the bottom inner edge of the door with two matching holes in the lower faceframe, and used Neo magnets on the top to hold the door in place. This is now my favorite way to attach a door. You can now completely remove it to do whatever you need to do.




There's a neo magnet in that little "ear" piece, and one in the door frame:




Note the doors still have that 3/8 inch grove going around the inner door edge (standard door construction).

I plan on taking the doors off my stand and convert them to this pin / Neo magnet attachment method.

I'll find a pic of what I'm planning and compare it to everyone's ideas. I like the idea of the magnets but wonder if they'd hold on the entire front. Fwiw, the front will be sitting on the floor so I don't have to worry about it sliding down.

I do not have any issues with the magnets holding my panels to the stand and I have 3 on each side panel (44x20) and 5 on the front (44x62). My toddler even likes to tug on it and the panels don't move. The only issue I had was they slid down so I can see the bottom trim of my trim since I did not account for the leveling feet.

Do they have holes for the screws or did you have to drill them? I can't tell from the pic. Also, is the metal piece you'd put on the stand for them to attach to included? Sorry for all the questions but I know nothing about magnets and it seems like a great idea.
