Actually those are the wrong ones, the ones I used had a hole drilled in them and are here:
SUNKEE Sunkee 4pcs 35x5mm /1.37"x0.19" strong round magnets with countersunk hole 5mm /0.2" rare earth neodymium magnet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0185EPYGM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_x8UbxbW1NAWWD

I clicked on the wrong one...

My stand is steel so I did not have to add anything for the magnets but you could imbed a magnet in each side or some steel in the stand to make it work.

I purchased 25 or THESE approximate 1/2 inch magnets for less than $5.

The first time I used them (on another stand) I used two on each side of the door. Four in total because two in the door and two in the "ear" pieces.

With both the ear pieces and the doors, a 1/2" Forstner bit was used to drill a hole to hold the magnet. The magnet was glued in place using epoxy (JB Weld). Using a magnet in the door and the "ears", you have to make sure you put them in the proper alignment. The "ears" were made by first marking out a length of wood, drilling the holes, and then cutting into small blocks. The blocks were further cut down and rasped/sanded.

Now here's an idea for you to attach the entire front panel of your stand. Using a board that will just fit into the front part of your stand, and is about 2 to 3 inches wide, rip that board down the middle at 30-45 degrees. Attach one piece to the inner lower section of the front panel and the other to the lower shelf in the stand so the two mate back together, holding the panel at the correct level. Here's a picture that might help to show what I'm talking about.

This board will hold the lower part of the panel to the stand.

In the top of the panel you use neo magnets....with the small ones I used, 2, 3 or 4 should work.

Hope this helps to give you some ideas. :D

Great thread. Been pondering on how to do the same idea to my front panel on my new stand. Love the ideas here

All of you are the best! Thanks for taking the time to go into so much detail!

Ok I have a question about the frames that form the outsides of the front. I have a 36" tank. I used 2x4's to build the frame and was thinking about using 2x6's for the frames. As far as proportion/scale, does this sound like a good idea? If the entire front is removable, I don't have to worry about the size as much as far as working in the sump. How did all of you determine what width to use?

I chose 1x6's for my outer face and 1x4's for the doors. I went with a 1x6 face so it would completely cover the 4" upper channel plus the aquarium frame.

That's a great idea. I meant 1x6, not 2x6! I was thinking about covering the black trim on the bottom with the wood.

What did you use to clamp the 1x6's when you put them together? Strap clamps? I can't think if anything else that would be long enough. I don't have any strap clamps yet.

I decided to go a little out of the traditional. I wanted full access to my sump area without the restriction of the front brace and did not want to have big doors in the way when I'm working in the area. I'm still working on it and have to get a top coat (or piano veneer) put on it.

Blum soft close hinges.

I'm not sure I can picture what you are doing, but if your making a faceframe, you could either screw them together with pocket screws (Kreg)(no clamps needed), or pick up bar clamps....or better yet, pipe clamps where you buy the clamp pieces and the length of 3/4 black pipe needed. Here are an example of the clamp ends.

Yes it's the face frame. I think it's time to buy a kreg

I got them at a hobby/surplus store I guess named sky craft here in Orlando. But I'm sure you can get them online if you goggled drawers slides.

I'm going with the round magnets for the front. I'll post pics when it's done. Thanks for all the great ideas!!
