+1 for BK, Royal Exclusiv makes one of the best performance skimmers plus quality workmanship and it's difficult to match. but price vs performance, it's no where near the top. as for availability of parts when you need it, sometimes that sucks even more. but can't beat the quality and performance combined.

Geo, without a doubt, for me. Exceptionally lucky in that he lives right down the road from me! My nps tank's sump had an incredibly small skimmer section. He took the dimensions and built a beast of a skimmer that has an 1800gph pump driving it. Did the same with the sump on my larger tank, as it had a narrow opening in the stand. Next up is a 4500gph recirculating skimmer for the 400 gallon sump I'm building. He does it all and has no problem doing custom pieces. Even delivers (here)! I'm even thinking of having him build my 300dd

For the money Reef Octopus is hard to beat. However from a craftsmanship standpoint they don't compare to the likes of BK/Deltec/ATB ect. BKs are probably the best overall skimmer I have had experience with in terms of quality and performance. Then again Octopus cost a fraction of what these others do.

Exactly Reef Octopus is good for the price if not the best for the price, but they are not even in the same class as the others. Problem is the others are so over priced.

Seems like a saw a study years ago that tested bunches of skimmers and it found that essentially the best skimmers all removed only something like 30% of dissolved organics. Past that it didn't matter if you did all the crazy mods, cones, whatever tech there was.

I don't think expensive necessarily means better skimming.

Now are we talking stock or modded? Cause for the money, and a few simple mods (mesh wheel and air pump and hard pipe) the coralife super skimmers are right on par with Reef Octopus and others.

I am a deltec guy. Bought my first one from Doug years ago. Have had just about every shape and size they make accept for the mega monsters.

Presently I have dual 902's on my main. An apf600 on my qt and one of the fancy new white ones on another system.
Never had a problem ever!

Deltec is good and reliable.
Doug was a good rep and a good guy, In my opinion he really got screwed. I wonder what happened to him. he really made deltec big in the USA and now you dont hear much about them anymore with him gone.
