So we all agree that supporting our LFS is something we all want to do. Sometimes it is very difficult to do. Not all of us have access to a legit LFS that treats and takes care of their livestock. There are never ending horror stories that involve LFS. Today I went to my local pet store to buy chick food, and as always I headed over to the fish section. I bought my first fish from them when I got into the hobby. The person that was in charge of the fish section was nice, and knew what he was doing. Unfortunately he left, and now they fish section is a mess. They had most of their fish wiped out by velvet, they use tap water, added corals to tanks that had copper, feed them expired food, don’t QT....I could go on all day. But today I saw this. They’ve had this lion fish for over a year. It used to be in the 100 gallon they have but now it’s in a bio cube. Things like this just make me mad. How hard is it to do a little research and look up the needs of the fish? It’s not only the fish section that struggles. They have birds, snakes, and other small pets that aren’t better off. So sad....

Poor guy. Have you spoken to the owner ?

Im really fortunate to have a awesome LFS just around the corner from me. If things are that bad for the store mentioned in the title I hope they wont be around for much longer

He is a joke and won't care at all. He wouldn't allow the guys to pull out the skeletons of coral bc they were "still alive and people would buy them" no joke. Their supplier if I remember the name correctly is Sunpet from Atlanta. They do not have a very good reputation as well.

Last I heard they were struggling. I hope the struggle ends soon by them shutting down.

Btw that lion fish was covered with white spots for the longest. Im actually surprised it made it. They feed it goldfish and expired food. They still have items for sale that expired back in 2015!! an algea that was expired back in 2012 like how do they not notice that?!?!

Bummer. I hate to see those type of people

sad, wonder what kind of advice they are giving to their customers.
Honestly its a bunch of college/high schoolers that run the place. They aren't trained therefore you see stuff like the one in the picture.

lol I am a college kid too :p

lol, college/high school kids should know how to use google and research!

Honestly, if it's that bad over there, and they're selling expired feed, report them to your state's Department of Ag... They'll come jack them up real fast, and probably yank their licenses.
there is no law in my area that would stop a pet store to sale any product past its best before, use by, or display until dates. when i worked at a feed store we would always have a after best by date section and we would drop the price 10-20% (on my request to counter the complaints and the constant returns) anyways the only thing that holds true is certain medications, antibiotics and vaccines. animal abuse is a different story

It must vary from state to state then... I know for a fact that the Colorado DOA would bring the hammer down on a business over that. Hard.

That poor fish ! I'd be peed off too ! My closest lfs doesn't mistreat their fish but they all look bad. I won't buy fish or corals(picked up apastia) any more. However the convenience is worth buying my dry good there.
Salt, meds , A length of tubing ,food etc . I will buy snails though . these items all together is plenty of $$ . So I do my part regardless .

don't get me wrong, I would like to push the limits but, there is a line/fine line.... they must know they are doing something wrong.
