I think this goes down to the difference between pets and invasive species. It was irresponsible pet owners released their lion fish the first place to start this mess.

huge difference! these people who released pet lionfish, piranhas, alligator gars, should be considered felons. even the local governments should be at blame for introducing certain fish to nonnative ecosystems but they do.

I had an Albino Burmese python.... I don't know the laws now, but I know at a time they were a big no-no in Florida due to people releasing them..... heck, TONS of stuff you can't have in Hawai'i

In Ohio though.... I can have pretty much anything (local city codes exist, other than that.....) I've been doing research on my next "exotic" and it's gonna be crazy...... but I'm likely waiting until both of my dogs grow old and die first....... for the safety of everyone!

just wait until paranoia strikes em. people own illegal exotic banned pets. even in Hawaii. they would be too afraid to call professionals, universities, or the government to take care of their illegal animal so they just release em to the wild. I owned 2 pet ferrets for about 6 years when I was a teen, all I did was call rescue service of endangered, highrisk, and exotic animals and we meet them without any legal issue.

The big ones like that tend to be pretty hardy still, but I can definitely see how it would be in bad shape, from what you're describing... If you ever need to, shipping isn't too hard, I usually get one of those small, disposable styrofoam coolers that Walmart sells, put the fish in a big bag with lots of water, and stick that in the cooler, with some balled up newspaper, or whatever so it doesn't roll around. Then just box that up, and voila..

I had a ferret a long time ago.... daughter wants one.... I have to explain to her what our dogs would do to them! haha..... Yeah, exotics require dedication, PERMITS, and usually a ridiculous amount of money for a "hobby"

we got ours from a biology teacher. sadly she died and her family gave them to my family, she had the permits we did not.

I think ferrets are my favorite I may even put them above cats and dogs. they loved to play in a bath and even more when they got out to dry theselves off on the ground. they would STEAL everything! my mother had these collectable starbucks bears and they would climb up the wall, steal the bears and hide them under the couch! party balloons were their second favorite thing to steal or the car keys...

Mine would take everyone's keys, socks, "stuff" and put everything under one couch.... no other couches.... just the one. I had him in college and lived in a house with 6 other guys, the house was huge, 2 kitchens etc.... and he had free-roam of the entire thing. We don't need permits for petstore fare like those..... my buddy had a skunk, he needed a permit for that.
I have a list of what I can and can't have in the city I live in...... I finally settled on Ocelot, so I've been in talks with a breeder.... the time just isn't right.

Welcome to Retail Customer Service circa 2019
Where there is very little customer service in Retail.
Most retail owners are forced to hire high school or college kids and pay them minimum wages without health benefits to even compete with Etailers.
Sooooo....
You are left with many but not all, young kids WHO DONT CARE ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR JOB.... they wanna know when quiting time is so they can BURN RUBBER in their car 3mins after their shift.
While at work they constantly check Twitter bc they feel they are going to miss some drama among their friends.
Then there's the many but not all, older workers who DONT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THEIR part time job either....just working for a paycheck and living in their OWN WORLD.
They cant get higher paying Corporate jobs bc they don't have the work ethic nor a good attitude for business.....so they work Retail and bounce from one retail job to another 2-3 times a year
LFS are dying off quickly bc the only advantage they have is Service....and usually the only two workers who care about Service is the Owner and the Store Manager.

I think this is called socialism.
either way if welfare was no more if food stamps were no more, if universal health care was no more there would be a much more need for a job, everybody would have to compete not just clock in. you had to work hard not just to get a pay check but to keep the job if you didn't have a job you would starve your family would starve and your family would be broken up, going to different places to find jobs just to survive. I think our society is not pushing the people hard enough.

Let's agree that those working Retail, for the most part, dont care, dont have a stake in the biz succeeding or failing, they all live in their OWN WORLD which doesn't include making a paying customer H A P P Y
They just dont care....and rather not even deal with you, the customer.
A perfect work shift to them is having 1 customer to deal with in a work shift.... and that customer came and left quickly. Gives the worker more time to text, Twitter and watch YouTube.

They had to ground one of their tanks bc there was stray voltage. A purple tang was harmed.. eventually another person bought it. They also had a 75 cube with at least 20 fish, including clowns one wish was donated to them and was around 6 years old, various damsels, firefish, etc. They were all wiped out over one weekend due to velvet. They didnt know about cross contamination so the tools they used to clean that tank were used for the other tanks as well and you all know what happened next. That tank is now a freshwater tank.

me, I am not much to mingle amongst the customers with a pointless chitchat. if the conversation is about something related to me - the worker who can help about an issue or to help find you what you need or give advise on something great just don't hang me up for 10 minutes I have a 2-5 min max conversation limit then I will rush you to the cashier, (figuratively speaking mind you) its important to make the person feel like an individual but when its short staff I cant make you feel like family. how I see it im not getting paid to be on a phone and If I was a manager I am not paying my staff to be a support group council. work is work. and if there is down time by all means I will be the one talking it up with you, but not when there are 30 different people who also need help.
