Lionfish aggression

Sadly the mortality rate of these lions are extremely high. Prazi is one of the few drugs they can handle. If there was even a chance he came from a source that ran copper in their system, its pretty much 100% death rate. And the likelihood of any lion living that long is doubtful.
probably so on copper. they only had him for two days. i was willing to risk my QT treatment, but it didn't work out this time. thanks for the insight.

tuesday update. radiata has not eaten since sunday. i did a 25 percent water change and added a bag of carbon to get the prazi out of the water today. fish is hanging under the lip of the hangon filter. not showing any interest in ghost shrimp although were he is located its impossible for me to get them in front of him. lowered the water level to try to get him to move back down to the PVC caves. not looking good.

Same risk as with any lion exposed to copper, so you never know. Did you run the full course of prazi, make sure to check for signs of internal parasites, stingy poo(hanging or even around the tank). Metroplex treats another form of parasites that prazi doesn't, and all lions have a high risk of internal parasites. Sometimes you need general cure in the water column, which contains both prazi and metro, internal parasites can be quite stubborn sometimes.

Going off feeding may also be him preparing to shed, his color may look faded and eyes even cloudy, give it a few days and he may shed then be back to normal. This is not unusual going into a new tank and being treated.

How much has eaten so far.

He ate two ghost shrimp Sunday. The shedding may be a possibility. He does look faded. I have metro which I could dose. But right now I think the best course is leave him be in good clean water and get him eating good for a week or so. Prazi can suppress appetite, so it could be that as well. Only time will tell.

Wednesday update. He looks much better and gulped down 2 ghost shrimp. i can only conclude that it was the prazi that shut him down. 2nd dose of prazi is supposed to be friday. haven't decided whether to go ahead or not.

If you are really good at observation, it is always best to forgo any meds with the lions. The obvious poop from the butt, but along the tank you would see what looks like plasic shavings, that would be stringy poo. Since he has eaten, an observational qt would be in order. Internal parasites are sometimes the main reason for not eating, in that case, thats why I usually suggest treat for parasites immediately.

I don't see anything irregular. the only strange thing it does is from time to time it will twitch and shoot forward a little bit. Almost like it is irritated by something. pic is the fish below. Also quit hanging at the top. thats regular airline tubing behind it for scale.

That twitch and shoot could also signify the shedding they do. It is to encourage the skin to shed, you may also see flakes of skin. It can also be indicative of something else, but shedding is likely in an otherwise healthy lion. His color looks good and as long he is eating all you can do is hope for the best.

Thanks again for all your insight. ill let you know if i get him in the display.
