Livestock Delivery Delayed via UPS...What Now?

As soon as you open the bag oxygen/co2 raises the ph of water. Raise in ph makes ammonia deadly.

Salinity is the biggest factor when acclimating.

So by moving the fish quickly into seperate container you free them from ammonia stress. From the seperate container you can choose to further dip them before adding to your qt or dt. Such as mythel blue dip or formulin.

RE - ammonia and shipping - I agree. I'm not sure that dips in methylene blue or formalin are helpful - nor do they decrease stress - especially in this type of case. In any case - its not important to know what the shipper sent the fish in (salinity) - when you're going to test it yourself anyway. that was the point. and its a very small point

If is, but what they tell you should be close to what you measure. Its easy to go from 34 to 35 or 33, but what if they keep fish in hypo salinity, then what?

Then you are measuring it in the bag anyway - so who cares?

Even the best packing probably would have failed in freezing temps that long.
I do like liveaquaria best though as they typically have a pretty good gaurantee on livestock

He said he would make it right as soon as he found out there was a delay. Just a bummer all around!

Total bummer. I had a package delayed delayed only 1 day and it killedddd me. Couldn't imagine 3 days.

I am so sorry for you and for the fish. Poor little guys. I had a fish delivered to the neighbor down the street once. He did not survive either.

So sorry for your loss. I just started over last 6 months my 1st reef tank. B4 that FW & planted tanks for over 35years. Learned some important points when ordering livestock online - fish, plants, FW inverts. 1. NEVER order livestock between Thanksgiving and New Years day. Things WILL go wrong, Murphy's law. 2. Always check for REVIEWS on the person/company your buying your livestock from. If you can't find any then spend your hard earned money elsewhere. 3. Weather : if anticipating extreme cold/heat, hold off on ordering until conditions normalize. 4. If possible look for a LFS that you can trust in your area even if it's a 2+ hr. drive, it's better than a 3-5+ days in a shipping container. Fortunately here in NJ there are several reliable SW fish & corals LFS's all within an hour or so driving distance.
*Regardless of the fact UPS screwed up the person you bought the fish from appears he did not properly pack the fish. I would definitely demand a refund!! Good Luck.

All good - just saying - in your original post of 'the way its done' - you said nothing about methylene blue - There is no argument - I just said the way you wrote your original post didn't make sense as to the steps you recommended. No more no less and no offense....
