Long time fish keeper - first time marine/reefer. Am I crazy?

Hey gang, I've been snooping around forums for months and decided that I want to be one of you. Long story short I got a 300 gallon aquarium from my dentist (he was going to throw it away). Pic attached. So I've spent the past few months selling my cichlids and several of my other aquariums and I'm going to get into saltwater. I've already found a lot of value in these forums, but I would love to connect with anyone who is in the greater Salt Lake City area to get some ideas and ask some questions. Anyone up for fielding a lot of potentially basic questions for a noob?

300 gallon is a great size. Don't be afraid of the higher end stuff, most of it is pretty awesome. Also, look around your house for a place to put a water station. I do not know why freshwater tanks ignore water so much, but I bet you will need an RO station with some big water tanks (one for fresh, one for salt). If you start with good water you will probably succeed. Also, while possible, I cannot imagine running that without a sump. This will maybe fit in that cabinet, but if you can plumb it to the basement or another room that would be the way to go. Just something to think about before it gets really heavy or you have something alive to worry about.

Welcome to R2R!!! The site is by far the most informative site out ther. Everybody here is extremely helpful

Welcome to the salty side! That is one amazing tank! Is it drilled? You're definitely going to want a big sump with that monster.
Yes sir, it is drilled. It came with a 55 gallon sump but I am going to buy a 75 gallon. The more water the better, right?

Great points Nathan. My utility room is on the other side of the wall from where I am going to put this tank so I will be running my RO and sump from the utility room. It should eliminate the noise and give me ample room for all my equipment. I have one 55 gallon drum already there. I didn't think about having one for fresh water and one for salt. Great tip.

Awesome set up!! I got a 300. You’ll love all that space.
Thank you! I can't wait to get things set up. Right now it is taking up half of my garage so I'm parking my car in the driveway! I need to build a stand for it and then get it all moved into the basement. Super excited!
