Pretty close to being done with my fish population. Currently have six tangs, six Angels, a bunch of damsels and pseudoanthias, chalk basslets, PJs, five pyramids, a zebra eel, a watchman, and a bunch of wrasses in my 450. Quoyi and tusk are out because I have an acrylic tank. Still thinking I may add an Achilles .... Looking for any other ideas?

Achilles all the way. I'm unsure if my tank is acceptable for one. 140 gal 48x24x30

Is the crosshatch an algae scraper? U cannot keep anything that would be inclined to try to 'rasp' the front pane of the tank (which is why the quoyi is out)?

Achilles really need 6' of swimming space. Great fish, but very prone to stress, healthy diet and ample room to swim = happy tang. I have one, it's one of my favorite fish!

I would go Achilles for sure! What are your other tangs?

I would do one of the foxfaces that catch your attention. I have a Fiji Bicolor and it’s one of my favorite fish that I have ever owned. Great algae picker, looks pretty, and can hold its own because of its venomous spines. If you’re not a fan I also agree that the Achilles would be a great choice provided you like the look. They’re eye catching for sure. If you have some extra money, maybe a gem tang ;-)

I had an Achilles for 5 years that passed recently, so I do plan a replacement eventually. Tangs are Desjardini, yellow, purple, regal, chevron and unicorn ..... so there's room for an Acanthurus genus.

Not in the main display, but in an attached large refugium, I keep my 'rare' tangs - black, zebra (polyzona) and a gem. I keep them in there because I just don't want to expose them to the possibility of getting beaten to death.

Roll Achilles as long as your tank is parasite free (IE you qt everything)

Unfortunately, that's the problem .... I do have low level ich in my system even though I QT all new fish. Most fish never show any symptoms, but of course the Achilles would. When I had mine it would sport a few spots on occasion.

Never kept one as I thought they got pretty aggressive to smaller reef fish and inverts. They are stunning though

Since you're open to butterflys and angelfish, I'd do something like Chaetodon mitratus or declivis.

Apparently a peppermint hogfish doesn't play well with wrasses, of which I have a number. Mitratus is an interesting idea. I'd also been toying with perhaps a few zosters.

Zosters would be very nice with your yellows but I don't think they are as nice the roaps.

I've been looking at some of the filefish for my upgrade (Thanks for the suggestion eatbreakfast!). Hawiian fantail, orangetail and mimic may have some potential, maybe they deserve a look.

The crosshatch suggestion is excellent as well. I would love to have one (or two).

So many choices!
