Looking to buy an RO/DI system... Recommendations?

Yes. Most systems use the industry standard 1812 configuration so most membranes are interchangable. You could put a 90 GPD specially treated, individually hand tested and guarateed in writing Spectraure membrane in it but I would aslo upgrade the sediment and carbon block filters at the same time or the membrane will not last as long since it is not protected as well. A good system depends on every component to make it both work well and last long.

Ok so I should contact spectraure and make sure their filters will fit is what you are saying?

Check your systems membrane first. If it is the Dow Filmtec 100 then yes replace it. If it is the GE Water 100 GPD membrane it is OK since it is essentially identical to an off the shelf 75 GPD Dow Filmtec in every way, they just advertise them differently. Both do 75 GPD at 40 psi, 90 GPD at 60 psi and 100 GPD at 65 psi at 96-98% rejection. The biggest advantage of the Spectrapure is they are normally beter than 98% rejection which is important since for every 2% you increase the efficiency you double the life of your DI resin. They quickly pay for themeselves in DI savings alone plus when you use the better quality sediment andcarbon block filters the membrane lasts many times longer, its not unheard of for a Spectrapure membrane to last 10 years at better than 98% efficiency.

Actually I believe Spectrapures 0.5 micron absolute rated sediment filter is $12 and their 0.5 micron 20,000 gallon carbon block is $13. Those are their recommended sizes as they do the best job of protecting the RO membrane.

The only brand I am going to spend my hard earned money on would be spectrapure and since were in a hobby that about purity I am going for the Maxcap. I know its hard because everyone has an opinion but AZdesertrat knows his stuff; dont be scared to follow his advice.


P.S. Spectrapure uses less stages than most of their competitors to produce 98% or better Quality water more efficiently. This ensures DI stages last forever on spectrapure which is why I went back to Spectrapure; cost is frontloaded and not backloaded in filter costs.
