no never even thought or hear of doing that. it also just seems funny that it was all of my bigger fish (2 tangs and angel). the clowns, 6 line and ornate wrasse are fine, and other large chromis are fine. Also has not affected the tang that is hanging out in my sump until I get him a new home. What can I treat tank with that is reef safe?

Heard Prazipro is reef safe. I have only used it in my QT tank though so I don't have first hand experience when it comes to corals' reactions to it.

BK did you by any chance do a water change recently,if you did what salt did you use.
The reason for my question is, at the end of December I did a water change and a day or so later lost a whole bunch of fish, these are fish that I had for a long time.About 5-6 weeks ago I did a water change, I had quite a few fish in the tank that had been in quarantine tank for 3 weeks before being added to the tank, these were all healthy and eating well. Then started to die off.Checked water etc and the only thing that I did was change water.I have no idea if the salt has anything to do with it.The four fish that remained were and are still doing well.

Why yes I did use a new salt. I used the salt that I had won in a contest here at R2R. I did a water change a few days prior to the first deaths and did one more using that salt. I have gone back to my RC and no problems or deaths.

So I thought I was doing good no fish loss in the past few weeks. Just found a 3 inch chromis dead and it was alive last night at midnight when I was looking in tank with flash light. Same thing it was all chewed up by its vent with the guts, gills and eyes gone. I did not see anything on, in or near the body of the fish.

I am so at a loss as to what is killing all my fish and eating their insides. I am looking for and and all suggestions. The tank has been up for over 2 years and I am the second owner.

I have not added and rock to the tank in the little over a year that I have owned it. If it was a mantis I think I would have seen it by now. Short of taking all rock out and letting it dry out I do not know what to do.

I do have 2 cleaner shrimp and a peppermint shrimp and a sand sifting star in the tank at my only inverts. Fish include 4" Ornate Wrasse, 6 Line Wrasse, 2 True Perculas and now 2 Chromis and a Atlantic Blue Tang in my sump who was being punished for harassing other fish. Glad he is still in the sump now. I also have a lot of corals and 5 RBTA. HELP!!!

I would put some type of trap baited with food in the tank at night to see what goes into it.

That's a good idea...you never know what you may catch...... I wouldn't look too much into how you find them after their dead to be honest. There are so many animals in our reef tanks that will capitalize on a dead fish, I would bet money that how your finding them(eyes gone, insides eaten out, etc.) is not what caused their death. How old are your test kits? Can you take a H2O sample to a LFS for testing? What type of corals do you have in your tank? Anyway something's getting into the tank chemical wise? Air fresheners/carpet cleaners/perfumes or colognes of any type? Anyone put their hands in the tank that apply skin lotion? Just thinking outside the box here.....

set a pop bottle trap with some Mysis. Forgot I got a few of these several months ago and have not seen in a while. Was told the were chestnut nassarius. If anybody can give a positive ID that would be great. the are about the size of a ping pong ball.

I don't think their nassarius, I remember seeing these before at my LFS......I can't remember what they were though....gimme a few, it may come to me!

Test kits are about a year old. Corals in my tank are about 40 types of Zoa/Play and some LPS. I have 5 RBTA. I am the only person who put an are in my tank and I use no lotion. Clean glass with RO water and a paper towel.

I was wrong, just found a pic on aquacon.com that says their orange spotted nassarius

Any chance 1 of the nems got em? I lost a wrasse to one of mine once....

The nasarius is definitely the culprit of the Wierd carcasses...as to what's killing everything? Very strange...and it's only larger fish? Very odd.

I would agree, I don't think there's a nassarius out there that could/would pass up a free meal.....

I feel like it's going to be an obvious answer lol have you been supplementing anything, changes in food, did your tangs have wierd blotches on them before they died?

Ok I put in a pop bottle trap. This morning when I got home from work I went to see if I caught anything. Well nothing in the trap but I did see an possibly orange/pink something that was so fast I could not make anything out of even see where it went.

I have not changed anything in my tank except for using a new salt for two water changes.

That is my biggest thing is that it is all of my large fish and expensive fish. I do not think it is any of the anemones as they do not even eat mysis, krill or silversides. I have tried to feed them but they just let it go after a minute or so there for I gave up feeding them.

Thanks all for you suggestions and help. Hope to solve this problem soon as I would like to restock my tank. My LFS is holding a fish for me until solve this issue.

I hear you but it isn't necessarily even a question of your nems trying to eat them....all it takes is a sting. Hope it all goes well for you....
