Lymphocytis or Ich?

I am glad treating with copper is going well for you!

There are so many factors that play a role in the life cycle of parasites. The specific strain you are dealing with and how fast it multiplies, the overall health of the fish being afflicted etc etc.

There are even some strains of velvet that can wipe out an entire tank without ever seeing the first "white spot".

The case of velvet where someone wakes up to a fish/multiple fish in their tank that are completely covered in spots has probably been in the tank for a period of a week to a few weeks and finally taken a good hold, therefore "our" 48 hr rule of getting fish in therapuetic copper or CP.

Make sense?

@4FordFamily had a Wrasse tank that had velvet in it for months before it became an issue a few years back.

UPDATE: Something kinda strange going on. Ive been at therapeutic copper for almost a week now, but I'm still seeing new ich/velvet spots on the anglefish. Copper is 1.70, verified with hanna copper checker.

I was under the impression (Maybe incorrectly) That reinfection could not occur at therapeutic copper levels.

Anyone have any input? @HotRocks
Can you post pics? That would be helpful. Could be lympho, could also be flukes.

You could give one of the fish showing spots a 5min FW dip to see if any flukes come off.

Agree. Spots are simply a fish’s reaction to injury to insertion — it’s not always ich or velvet. :)

We need to see pics. Spots are the injury but after 7 days they should mostly be gone. I assume 7 days at copper above 1.5 or was copper S L O W L Y done. I usually take 7 days to reach my copper point of 1.75 or higher. I don't trust 1.5 and prefer it closer to 2 fish permitting.

I think i raised mine over the course of 5 days, didn't have the luxury of 7, since the concentration of my coppersafe bottle wasn't consistent or known when i started dosing. I don't see anything wrong with the fish currently, whatever reactionary spots she had are gone ATM, if symptoms reappear I will add photos and tag.

Thanks again @HotRocks @4FordFamily :D

@Nopy117 -- people keep begging you for pictures for like a month now. You should really upload HD images as it's the only way to surely identify anything.

All three times I was asked for photos I provided, I cannot post pics of a fish with zero symptoms and expect a diagnosis!

And actually you can get diagnosis if the fish is showing no symptoms.

That implies it's something like ich, as the cysts fall off the fish completely as part of their life cycle before hatching and coming back. Which is evident through comparing pictures.

And lastly, pictures show details the eyes can't see.

Quite frankly, if you literally didn't say a single word but instead put up new detailed HD images every 2-3 days we would have a substantially easier time diagnosing your problem.

I've seen threads like this a million times. All that matters are pictures. The average person doesn't stare at their tank long enough to properly notice symptoms. Maybe it sounds like a hassle -- but it's the only sure fire way to get answers.

And through personal experience I can tell you it's not always easy to get a photo, especially of small fast moving fish.

Good luck.

No symptoms to report, think the spots I was seeing were simply latent exit wounds, since its completely within the parasites timeline to have stayed on the fish for a period of a few days.

My current plan is remove the fish after 11 days of therapeutic copper and return them to the DT Saturday night. (which has also been fallow for 6 weeks) I'm confident at this point it was a velvet infection due to the consistent 4 day lifecycle. I would rather keep them in copper for a prolonged period of 30 days, however, the fish are starting to see some negative effects from copper and I do not feel comfortable keeping them in it much longer. This plan will deal with velvet and any strain of ich that has a reproductive cycle of less than 42 days, (the average is much lower than this in most studies, so im hopeful ich will be gone at this point If there is any to begin with) if there happens to still be ich in the DT after reintroduction, I will be looking to employ a management technique, or rehoming them to another local hobbyist that can give them a separate form of treatment, as the flame angel in particular is already on her second round of copper. I do not have the means of doing a TTM or CP. Then at that point its invert and coral galore in the tank until i feel like letting it sit without any new additions for 76 days. But lets hope that isn't the outcome!

OK, Flame Angel and Starry Blenny are back into the display tank, I'm happy I made the decision to pull them sooner, Angel fish is in bad shape, but still very active and eating. Now only time will tell if the parasite(s) were eradicated. ;Nailbiting
