MA Reefer250

Looking awesome!!! I've been really hating my rock work the last few weeks and wish I had made the structures a little smaller. The growth in your tank is amazing, once day I'll be able to keep and grow corals! haha What size tank is on your mind?

And so it begins! Found what I’m looking for in CDA Aquariums... Looks like the Reefer 250’s days are numbered.

So we had this week off of work. Kind of a get caught up with life week more than anything else but i did manage to work in water changes every morning in the different systems. So two 10g changes for the Reefer this week. Although I’m dosing Triton Other Methods and parameters seemingly inline I did the changes anyway. Heck I shower when i don’t stink so..... Yeah why not?? We used the Home Depot buckethead Vac to clear out sump detritus too. All in all I’m pretty happy. Corals seem to be enjoying it as are the Pods.

Tank looks amazing! I still remember the first time seeing your tank and how you flipped the back panel.

:) Thanks Bud! Yeah that was funny! I was so excited to get going i never even realized I had done it backwards. It turned out being cool because i had that whole back wall to mount controllers. Funny how it goes sometimes.

@pelphrey made me realize we’re a week to 10 days from a 2 year tank birthday! So lets post some shots from the beginning.

Ah, the progression pictures!!! The 160's just couldn't cut it! I really like the rock structure. I really wish I had made my right structure smaller. The thought of pulling it out and beating it with a hammer has crossed my mind, since I used cement on it and with the reef cleaner florida rock being tough I'm not sure how much damage a hammer would do. Don't know if I can justify all of the work involved! haha

Yeah that would scare the crap outa me for sure. You could easily wind up needing to re-cement a dozen baseball size pieces back into something useable.

I definitely started with way more rock than I needed. I was clueless though at that point and went with 1.5 to 2lbs as that older guideline says. I pulled some pieces out over the first few months as I realized flow was a problem and it just seem so jammed. Nothing had really grown yet and I was out of room. The first year was really just learning and figuring out what worked for me and what didn’t. Loads and loads didn’t but things kinda hit a stride right around the 12 - 14 month mark and I stopped trying to do too much and let things settle a bit.

I probably gave up on the Kessils too soon. I thought lights were my problem but in hindsight it was more than likely lack of nutrients. I never did crank the Kessils up over 70/75% with or without the T5’s.

At the end of the day we’re all still learning... Usually the hard way!

Break some of that stuff off and come on up, cold beer on tap awaiting :-)
