Magnificent Anemone Advice

Here it is today

The mouth doesn’t seem to be closed and the tentacles don’t seem full, tbh if I were you the fact that it deflated to that extent, I would treat it , waiting just means your giving the infection time to spread. I got extremely lucky mine had no infection and a healthy foot but the trade off was was it was extremely bleached. I would treat it and be patient.

And how do I treat it?

Cipro every 24 hours and a 100% water change every 24 hours. repeat for 7 days

Maybe I should get some more input from others then. Note: In 23 days it has deflated twice. I personally think the clowns are ******* it off

Actually when these are collected clowns are used to help the nem get settled in. Having clowns while they settle in the new environment is a good thing. Treat it with cipro, these are getting really hard to come by these days we should try to hold on to what we have.

Looks fine to me. You’ve had it close to a month. If it was going to die of an infection it likely would have happened by now. You’d at least see more deflations. Try turning the lights down a little for a few days. I just recently moved my mag to a new tank. It didn’t looks as great as usual so I turned the lights down a bit and it immediately was back to looking perfect. Worth a shot at least. Does it accept food?

Yes. It greedily accepts food. Closes right up.

I would NOT treat ..... yet. Looks OK in all those pictures and if it has only deflated twice then just observe. It’s the daily deflation cycles (usually at the end of the day) that trigger alarm. I would also not feed it. They do fine with just strong light and the occasional float by. I’ve been keeping mags for almost 20 years .... and Minh has kept many more than I have. He is also the original author of the anemone treatment thread on RC.

The tentacles look fine. I would follow ca1ore advices. Don’t feed yet. I would not feed him until he is completely well.
Take picture of him at his best and worst daily. Day after day he should looks better. If he start to look worst than I would treat him. I use pictures so that there is no question that he is better or worst

Well. It ate my Dori. She kept swimming into it and getting stunned. Eventually she got stuck and it ate her so fast I could not even get a pic or record it. After that it deflated... ...I think to take a dump.... That was the first time it deflated.

Also, it killed the top of my Milli.

So, I hope it lives. My clowns are super protective of it. They bite me now when my hands are in the tank.

Thanks. I take lots of pics. So I will compare. I do have a lot of flow too. But it seems to have found a happy spot. Damaged my Acan, broke a Digi and partially killed my Milli but seems happy now. Lol

If it takes food then it’s almost certainly not infected. I think you are pretty much in the clear. I never target feed any of mine but I think it’s a good indication that it’s healthy if they will take food.

Sometime, unhealthy anemone just take food and regurgitate it later and get much sicker after they eat. I think the food just fuel the bacterial infection in their body.

Here is an update on the nem. I have just been observing. It has not deflated for several days now. Only deflated 2 times in 28 days. Thoughts on how it looks?

Having some of the tentacles deflated like in that last pic is a little concerning. I’d still just keep an eye on it. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to have some cipro on hand just in case it goes downhill. I still think you are likely ok though.

Looks ok to me except for those thin tentacles on the left side (bottom 2 pictures). Were they always like that? Maybe damage when it was collected? Mine has thinner ones on the inside compared to the outside but you have to look close to see that.

Maybe the thin tentacles have to do with my flow whipping it back and forth.
