Majanos, are they really a threat?

Recently I've had a couple pink and one green majanos pop up from a coral rock I added the other week. They are on their own "islands" per say (yes I'm aware all anemones can move) however, are they really the pests they claim to be? It's been years since I've ever seen them and I never really had them spread that much nor be this vibrantly colored. My reef is pretty much all mushrooms/zoos/ softies due to the focus of fish aimed at angels. Who really has the issues with these, LPs/sps owners?

Problem with majanos is that as you stated often stay in one spot but do release spores as a natural behavior and eventually sting coral.
Not worth it in my opinion

I’ve always kept majanos since I’ve found them , I think they are pretty and haven’t caused issues yet aptasia on the other hand is another story lol

I actually notice these use pedal lasceration for reproduction like an anemone. I dont know if they are like aiptasia and squirt spores as a defense mechanism.

When you cover them in franks for a few hours, you can siphon most of them as they will release their foot from the rocks.

Much different than aiptasia IME.

Think theres different species of majano as i have dull non glowing green with pink mouth variety and they never look like this lol.
Im convinced theyre from hell lol.

Yes mine glow like rfas , there’s many types so maybe yours aren’t as desirable but I still like them haha you can see my other green ones almost look like GSP on the left

Well mine went from maybe 50 to over 5000 in a year Covering every square inch of rock they can.....
Yours must not be aggressively colonizing...

Thanks , the cool thing is they are free , there was an LFS tank with a back wall of the green majanos lol it was crazy I may have 1000 later on but they don’t seem to bother coral , OP keep the majanos!

Pest anemones are actually kinda cool , especially if they have their own tank !

I dont know all of them but yes there is different species of majano. Here is my pink ones, all of mine have bulbous tips like BTAs. I hadn't seen these is years and when I saw them on the rock, I got excited I had some "free" BTAs as the tank I got these from had those as well.

I lost one, after the third pair was added. So no more, luckily I hand fed the small one and ran off aggressors. Now he is the little king and stands his own ground. YES it would be perfect to add 50 babies in there. But I have a pair of perculas orange that I've had for 25 years and they are still kickin
