Male or female blue throat trigger?

i bought this blue throat form a life about 6 months ago. They told me it was a male that wasn’t colored up yet. I bought him because I wanted a smaller fish so I could watch him grow. I’ve had males in the past and he just looks like a female to me. Even his top fin looks more like a female. What is throwing me off is it does have a slight blue on the throat. But zero yellow markings. He eats spectrum pellets, pe mysis, Lrs reef frenzy and chunky, blood worms, brine shrimp and krill. If it is a female they do have another smaller male I would like to grab. What do you guys think? Sorry the pictures are tough under the lighting with an iPhone. Thanks

That's a female. Cosmo and wanda, I had to take out my pair about 6months ago , they tore everybody up. Turned out the female was the pproblem. Wanda even killed Cosmo at the lfs. My male had more subtle colors as well.

Boy...that's a tough one...those pics make it definitely look more male to me.....although the yellow edging on the fins is not there yet, there is an obvious blue on the jaw....

I know. He hasn’t changed in the way he looks since I got him. He’s definitely gotten much larger

A hint of yellow makes me think it's a male combined with the blue jaw. Looks a lot like my old male. Never had that striking color. It had a very subdued male colors. Faint yellow and faint blue jaw.

What size, I've seen uncolored immature males to about 4.5". If he/she is larger than that, then it's a female, if still smaller than 4.5" may still be a male. Your tank dynamics may play a role is maturation, they don't change sexes, if it's a male it's a male and will eventually show his true colors.

Unless you have a very large tank, like 400-500g, it usually doesn't work out for very long. I have seen many times female sexed bluethroats turn out to be immature males, it happens quite often when people try to sex them under 4.5".

None at all. He’s awesome. I have several cleaner shrimp, blood shrimp, peppermint shrimp, snails and hermits. He don’t bother any of them.

Thanks. He’s around 3.5”. I’ve seen smaller males that already had their colors. That’s why I was getting a little curious.

They can be a little agressive. My female ended up going after other fish and took a chunk out of my finger. She we as a beast

Male colour also depends on who's about to show your best colours off to. No point in looking you best if there are no ladies around. I've seen really nice males fade over time when kept on their lonesome so although it might still be an immature male waiting to colour up, it might just not colour up.
