Male or female blue throat trigger?

Male colour also depends on who's about to show your best colours off to. No point in looking you best if there are no ladies around. I've seen really nice males fade over time when kept on their lonesome so although it might still be an immature male waiting to colour up, it might just not colour up.

I tend to believe it might not color up if it is a male. I’ve never seen a blue jaw that didn’t have the distinctive yellow lines and blue jaw. I’m kinda mad because He’s one of my favorite fish and he’s bland looking. I could definitely find a nicer looking male.

I'm leaning male. 3.5 inches is still juvenile. See my thread dealing with same issue. Turned out have a male (colored up shortly after my post) and accidentally tried to pair with another that was sold as female... Had no blue coloring but very faint marking on fins. S/He was killed immediately by my male.

That's a male, if it's not from Hawaii then the colors won't be as vibrant as a make from Hawaii..I got tbe same annoying problem.

i bought this blue throat form a life about 6 months ago. They told me it was a male that wasn’t colored up yet. I bought him because I wanted a smaller fish so I could watch him grow. I’ve had males in the past and he just looks like a female to me. Even his top fin looks more like a female. What is throwing me off is it does have a slight blue on the throat. But zero yellow markings. He eats spectrum pellets, pe mysis, Lrs reef frenzy and chunky, blood worms, brine shrimp and krill. If it is a female they do have another smaller male I would like to grab. What do you guys think? Sorry the pictures are tough under the lighting with an iPhone. Thanks

Female, is what I’d say simply because I can’t see what colour the tail is and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of yellow in the dorsal and anal fin.
The tail on both males and females is coloured but males have a deep red/orange colour and females have a more beige colour.
