Mandarin spits water?

That's cool..my mandarin doesn't do that..mines lazy hides in the rocks all day comes out at night when wants to eat and that's it lol

I've never seen that before, does your QT have something in it to insure good gas exchange? The water surface seemed very calm...

*Edit: nm about the first question I now see the bubblier in the background.

After that I would double check water parameters...

How do you plan on keeping it fed in QT?

Air stone in the back, water is from my established DT.

I'm attempting to train her on frozen though I have plenty of pods in DT if that fail.

Maybe she is washing small organisms off the glass to eat. Seems like you have mandarin that think it's an archer fish. [emoji846]

You shouldn't reAlly qt a mandarin fish. Thing is they eat pods all day long. It's really hard to duplicate that is a qt environment. With this fish it's best to just add to display tank. They have a thicker slime coating also witch makes it harder for them to get ich. That is a good thing

I vehemently disagree. I do however agree that you shouldn't use copper with mandys

And thst is your right to vehemently disagree. So how many years have you been keeping mandarins
IMO a mandarin needs a much different QT,(not to be confused with copper), although resistant to ick one should consider where the fish is coming from and internal parasites as well.
TTM to avoid the standard parasites and what ever nast may have been in the Petco fish pit. It also acts as a fallow period IMO as well.

Another benefit is if you can get them trained in qt to eat frozen then do internal parasite treatment. Its also a time to condition the animal to captivity and try different feeding methods, as training can mean flooding a tank with food. I personally would prefer a lower vol of water to change out and no coral.

I will say the "QT" should include rock macros chato like a mini DT as that is what a dragonette needs to survive. Just because its a fish doen't mean its the same as all other fish. little buggers are a lot more like cats really. they do what they want.

Ive only had dragonettes for about 8 years though.

I agree mostly to this statement. Didn't say it was impossible to qt them. Just saying bare bottom tank with heater and nothing else isn't the way to go with them

To me IMO. That just Doesn't Look Like A Normal Way for a Mandarin To act, but stranger things have happened before
