Mandarin spits water?

I QT'd every fish that went into my DT. 2 Prazi treatments and copper for 6 weeks. I added a Mandarin directly into DT and it along with many of my other fish broke out with ich. I will never add one again without putting it through QT. I would do tank transfer and then a couple of rounds of Prazi. I'd set up a temporary pod breeding tank(s) to keep it fed through the process and try to get it on frozen as well.

This is exactly where I am coming from. I do agree they need different qt methods, however.

I agree with anthonys51 and i agree from experience. I got ick in my main display pulled every fish out except for my mandarin (because of the thick slime coat) left tank fallow for 10weeks to break the icks life cycle, after that i put fish back in and haven't seen the ick since and that was about 5 years ago. I've had times of neglecting the tank so if ick was in my system still i should have seen it by now. My 2cents just put him into your main display but i can understand being cautious. I quarantine everything since then well except for a mandarin. Best of luck and happy reefing

Toss some fruit flies in the tank. I think this mandarin has been watching an archer fish.

Some how I think your all wrong. I think she or he is seeing its reflection on the glass and its displaying it`s best impression for it`s possible mate? Just a thought as mine do it all the time. It`s like showing off for its new lover...

Back to spitting, I have a a wasse that is also spitting. At first I though maybe something was wrong, but this has been going on for over a month and it looks very healthy. Maybe fish do beg for food.

Recently I came across an old girlfriend who also spit on me. She also had a thick slime coat.
