I am thinking ill dose mardel coppersafe in my new 210 gallon tank, then I put the fish in. I start this at FOWLR then I would remove the copper after a few months.
this should help the fish get over itch at first and they should establish.
any thought?
majority is Tang fish

I don't like this idea for several reasons:
  1. It is difficult to maintain a stable Cu level with rock in the tank due to absorption.
  2. It is very difficult to ensure you get all the copper out of the rock due to leaching.
  3. Copper is not a "cure all"; there are other diseases (brook, flukes, intestinal worms, bacterial infections) copper does not treat.
  4. Some fish can't take going from zero to full therapeutic copper. Exposure to copper should be done slowly if at all possible.

so I will have 6 tangs at once. i cant QT all the fish due to size. is there anything I could add or method to reduce the chance of getting fish.

Exactly how big are these fish going to be? Show size? could you get a 55 gallon and Qt them in there? @4FordFamily runs many tangs through QT using a 55 gallon tank with success. I'm sure he can give some pointers on how to get it done.

Yup! Water changes, and a HOB skimmer!

Ammonia badge, huge HOB filter I've had since 2003, and lots of pvc! :)

fish will be 4"........As of I am not allow to set up another tank in the house. I still have all the needed equipment in sealed box and a 4' x 2' x 2'
wanted another reef not a QT

I see fish store they put med, or even internet seller like Liveaquaria, they put med in the shipment of fish, or put med in water and the fish in fish store look healthy, any idea what med they use?
thanks guys

Each store would have their own QT protocol/medications used. LA doesn't use meds at all, only Diver's Den specimens receive minimal QT.

Thanks Humblefish. anything i can dose for prophylaxis in Fowlr tank?

Prazipro (for deworming), metronidazole (for internal parasites, brook & uronema), antibiotics (for bacterial infections).

so, can i just put all the fish at once in a 210 gal i have (will be permanent home) with skimmer, and dose these accordingly, and just make sure water parameter is ok. and keep the concentration in like a month or two?

Do you currently have ich in your DT now, or is this to prophylactically treat the 6 tangs you have coming? Just trying to figure out the situation.

I wouldn't medicate unless you see a problem (ich, velvet, flukes). And I know it's really none of my business, but I hate to see you dump 6 tangs into a brand new tank. For one, I doubt you have sufficient bacteria levels to handle that much bio-load. When a tank is newly cycled you typically only have enough nitrifying bacteria to handle 1 or 2 fish. They poop, feed the bacteria, more bacteria propagates, and then in a month or two you are ready for more fish. You risk an ammonia spike by putting that many fish in your DT all at once. Just something to think about...

any strategies to reduce aggression with all the tangs guys? especially achiles and power blue
the only thing i worry the most is itch - that would be an out break. other disease only kill one fish and wont have to go fallow 79 days

@Humblefish, do you think TTM would be feasible using large, brute trash cans? Would prevent ich from display, offer chance for fluke treatment and cross fingers velvet would show before going into the display? It would be a lot of water, but get around the "no more fish tanks allowed" possibly?

Achiles and Powder Blue tangs are both acanthurus tangs (my spelling is probably way off here), but being they are both acanthurus the general rule is that they will fight. @4FordFamily will be able to provide better insight on tang aggression but adding them at the same time and providing plenty of hiding places and food should help some.
