I was wondering if theres anybody out there that knows anything useful about the Marine Betta. I'm thinking of getting one for a 28 Gallon Nano and having it be the only fish. All input is appreciated...

I used to have one 6 years ago my first sw setup a beauty but it hides most of time in the rocks! So if your looking for a fish out all the time the comet fish isnt for you!

Thanks for the reply, Reef 5etup.

Honestly I want a fish that isnt out all the time. Having such a small tank I'm going to need to have something in there thats going to keep my attention and if I cant see it all the time it will definately make me appreciate it more when it is out to view.

I cant find a consistent recommended tank size for this fish, Any pointers?

Its a type of grouper, so it loves meaty foods like mysis and brine (live feeder shrimp are greatly appreciated and sometimes the best way to coax them to eat). When adding it to your tank try to stress it as little as possible. Leaving the lights off for the rest of the day would be a good idea so it can wind down and explore its new habitat in the dark. And they do get rather big (for a 28 gallon) so make sure he has room to swim now and a larger tank to go into later. Other than that only fish in the tank would be best as it will eat most of the smaller ones. Hope this helps

They will eat shrimp and any small fish like gobies, but I guess this wouldn't be a problem for you. A 28 gallon seems a little too small for one though. They like to stay in the shade and hide a lot, but they are really cool fish!

Thanks for all the input so far... it sounds like it probably wouldnt be a good candidate for my tank. Does anyone have any good suggestions on which fish would do good in a 28 gallon. I'm looking for a more unusual fish than something common.

you dont have too many choices with a 28 gallon, but u cant never go wrong with a pair of clowns.

I would get a pair of Picasso Clowns! :)

Dwarf Lionfish
Frogfish
Shrimp gobies w/ shrimp(many to choose from)
Small school of Firefish
Banggai Cardinal fish which could eventually breed in your tank
All of these would be fine for a 28g and be interesting to watch...

Hey Rev, we have a lfs here that sells the picasos for around 130.00-150.00 and semis for around 50-75. Ive seen them sell platinum pairs for less than 350.00. So Steve if you want platinums Aquatic Supply can get them pretty cheap. The can also get the snowflakes and I belive they are even cheaper.

Get a Fu man chu!!!!!!!!! I have both the betta and the fu man chu lion. The fu man chu only crawls around and hes not out all the time but when its out it is the most spectacular specimen.
