Marine Bettas: Show Me Yours!

Marines Bettas, I know there's plenty of people out there keeping these gorgeous fish, but they definitely seem to be a minority in the grand scheme of the Aquarium Hobby.

Mine was one of the first 3 fish introduced to my tank, and after a stressful couple weeks of not/barely eating and it started devouring everything in sight and drifting lazily around the tank. It's mid sized, perhaps 5 inches head to tail. A very fairly peaceful fish, the only tank inhabitant it's ever bothered has been the cleaner wrasse, and only because it was too vigorous in its cleaning. A velvet outbreak killed most of my fish, but the Betta survived and is quite content during treatment. Always still the first one out begging for food every time I approach the tank. Easily my favourite fish I have, had or likely will have.

I want to know who else out there has one, and what do you think of them?

This is awesome. It’s a must have fish for me, everyone who’s kept it says its pretty much bulletproof. One hardcore son of a gun.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to acquire mine as my first three fish (my backup plan is Ocellaris pair + OSFF) but the Comet will definitely go into the first phase of my stocking plan, hopefully before my trio of PJ Cardinals.

A majestic fish, an absolute beauty. My dream fish that’s realistically attainable and easy enough for a beginner. My plan is to have it eat frozen and even pellets at the LFS before I buy one, but if not I’ll devote up to 3 weeks for it to eat prepared foods. And the fish I’ll have at that point in my tank, none will bother it as they’re all relatively peaceful species.

It looks like a hard fish to keep, it looks super fragile, I’m glad it’s anything but. Looking forward to getting mine!

In terms of size I plan to get mine in the 6-10cm range with 6-8cm being ideal.

That is one amazing fish. It looks a bit like the zombie verso of a betta. Very jealous.

Before my changeover to a sump*** excuse the heater, hob filter and white rocks lol

This is the best pic I've ever been able to get of mine. I got it at 2 inches, she's about 3 now.

Lovely fish. Mine took months before I could start getting pictures of it, and even now I have to be kind of sneaky. Unless it's hungry. No idea what the gender is, which sucks because I would love to get it a mate!

That is a super awesome fish. Second the zombie betta look. I want one now, but as a grouper it would destroy my livestock.

I just call it a she, no real clue tbh lol. She's cryptic all the time. I've only seen her eat once, and that was a ghost shrimp when I first got her

Has anyone else noticed their betta making grunting sounds? I thought I was crazy at first but mine can make a low grunting sound when defending himself.

Not that I have noticed, but mine rarely needs to do that, been King of the Tank from Day 1 pretty much.

Beautiful fish. Hard to find sometimes. Somewhat expensive. I've had one on my purchase / wish list for some time. Still reading on its eating habits as it relates to smaller fish such as Damsels.

Edit: I found the article that I read a while back that drew me to these fish. Not to take away from the Marine Beta because it is an awesome fish
