So I have ordered from marine depot over and over
Beside they shipping time to get to me I have no problems.....
Until now I ordered a bunch of apex stuff
Get a email on Tuesday that it ships and will get here I a week
Today I wake up to a email that 3 things are on backorder and should be to me in 2-3 weeks
Why would they let me order and then send a email after it ships that it’s on back order...
Bad Business or am I just taking it the wrong way ??????

Marine Depot has been around for a long time... It's been at least 15 years ago that I started buying from them. They have a couple of warehousing locations across the USA... it's _not_ a fly by night organization. Inventory snafu's happen. As long as they make it right, in a reasonable amount of time, I wouldn't be too hard on them. They've been responsive to my emails in the past... if you're unhappy with the backorder, give them a call, and a chance to explain.

I wouldn't suspect anything shady. Things like this could happen for any number of reasons. The most likely is that the website isn't directly tied to their inventory management system for real time updates. Some older systems require manual of items when they run out of inventory. Some only do reconciliation once or twice a day. In these situations if they have 3 they may end up selling 5 and having to put 2 on back order.

Its also possible that they had a shipment snafu from Neptune. They may have been expecting to receive these items and elected to keep them on the website for sale. If that shipment was missed for some reason, it ends up going on back order.

Lots of possibilities, but I doubt any of them are shady.

Computer systems sometimes don't match physical invitory. The system prob got ahead and printed lable then they could not find the product. I worked retail for years, this happens. You should ask for a discount tho! That's a long time to wait.

Hi jerl77. Thank you for shopping with us! I would love the opportunity to check what's going on with your order. Please reply here with your order # or PM me at your earliest convenience. Thanks!

Warm regards,

Jeff @ Marine Depot

I have found Marine Depot to be honest with great customer service. Had an experience recently where they owned up to a mistake and took the monetary hit for it.

Usually you find its the supplier to places like MD that let them down with stock but we only see that its the shops fault.....I've been waiting for a piece of equipment from a supplier for over 4 months now and the manufacturer keeps letting them down.

Just this week I had an issue with them. I ordered a couple maxspect gyre xf230’s, one with a controller package and the other seperate. I had made the order 15 months ago, and never opened the box until now and found out the controller was not compatible with the pumps. A couple phone calls later they told me to contact coral vue who is the distributor for maxspect in US. The problem was resolved swiftly considering I ordered it over a year ago. I’m expecting my new controller in a couple days! They are ok in my book!

I suspect that the labels are printed which sets off an automatic email confirmation. Then later on an employee takes the label and that's when they actually find out they're on backorder.
