Sometimes the shipping crew that pulls the order grabs the wrong item (s) on a ship out. Nothing shady just a mistake because now inventory in the computer doesn’t match what is actually in the warehouse. When they later go to pull an order for the misshipped item it is out of stock and they have to reorder it and send out these oops notices.
I’ve ordered from this company, one order had two items that came from different locations. The item I wanted right away took over a week, and the item i’d Added to save on shipping came in two days.
It’s the story of my life. :)

Great company. They were one of my main go to places when I first got into the hobby. The oldest order I still have in my email is from July 2008 (#100406743). MD, PA, and my LFS were pretty much the only places I got dry goods back then. Still look to those three and now also BRS. All are great! And I even remember the days of Marine Depot Live. Wish they were still in the live fish business.

Just spent over 6k with them on a new setup, skimmer and pump... while they're a little slow on processing than I am used to (few hiccups while ordering, taking a few days for shipping confirmation, really slow to update points on said purchases - still missing some), theyve been really good about responding and letting me know what's going on. I will continue to order from them.
Also did an order from brs and it looks like it's going to take around the same amount of time to receive stuff so I guess slow shipping is kind of normal for aquarium stuff (at least my 3 orders from 2 different companies have been). With that in mind brs gave me instant confirmation and my points added up on the spot which is a plus and I already know the expected date so no need to ask any further questions.... I'll continue to order from brs too.
Still have to contact marine depot tomorrow bout my points... those things add up when you're spending thousands and I need to place a few more orders with both places still.

I have ordered probably over 20 times from them and have never had any problems. Items arrived on time and as advertised. Mistakes happen but my experience has been great so far

Thank you for being a loyal MD shopper and for sharing your shopping experiences here on R2R!

Marine Depot is well known and trusted by many. They are a good company that can become even better if they improve on their logistics management.

We listen to all your feedback and are working on a variety of improvements in this arena! Thank you for taking the time to share your Marine Depot shopping experiences!

Love it! Thanks for shopping with us and sharing your experiences.

There are some facets of our rewards program that are still processed by a human. So while some actions have points added instantaneously, others take a bit longer. We're actually currently working on automating all of these processes now which I imagine will be complete before the end of the month. Thank you for your honesty and patience in the meantime!

I don't understand how you question if they are shady when this is the first out of many of your orders that you have had an issue with. Backordered items happen all the time in retail and it seems like they have been very good with their communication. These companies rely heavily on word of mouth, so I think we should all be a little more responsible when calling a company out. I know that probably wasn't your intention, but someone scrolling through the threads might see your thread title and question the company.

You can read about my experience with Marine Depot here. It wasn't a good one.

I've had great luck w/Marine Depot. Ordered a Mag12 pump and it was damaged from the factory. Box was intact but a corner of the pump looked as if someone dropped it. Sent them pics, they had UPS pick up old one and deliver new one with 48 hours. It doesn't get much better than that.

I would love for the opportunity to take another look at your order and try to make things right!

Would you mind sharing your order # with me?

You are welcome to reply with it here, PM us, or email it to [email protected].

I am delighted to hear we were able to make things right! Thank you for sharing your Marine Depot shopping experience here on R2R!

The OP posted their comments over a year ago. Not sure how this thread got new life, but I couldn't find how this issue was resolved. I agree with the OP that finding out items are on back order for weeks after you have paid is annoying. I would like to see companies give you a chance to cancel your order if this happens. Companies that don't give you that opportunity IMO are trying to keep the sale instead of looking out for their customers. Again, not saying anything against Marine Depot since the OP never updated us with what happened.

Inventory discrepancies sometimes occur, but we do annual cycle counts for our entire inventory and smaller ones in between to make sure they happen as infrequently as possible. We don't intentionally accept orders for items that are out of stock unless it's a new item that we've put up for pre-order.
