It was much slower than when he ate that silverside a week ago, BUT he ate it!!
I gave him the fat part of the shrimp, still have the tail... should i throw that in too or just freeze it? Im so happy

Anemone looks great, mouth all closed but he moved is coming down to the sand, and spit out a decomposing shrimp but deff still meaty. He also stung the crap out of one of the clowns. Now this morning all of the fish are gasping and acting funny. My ammonia spiked to .5-1.0 but everything else is zero.
I saw the clown stuck on the anemone and then just swim off freaking out, the anemone didnt try to eat him though.... Im feeeling a sign of defeat. Maybe i should just trade this guy in for a RBTA. The whole point was i wanted a large nem and clowns hosting.

It is difficult to keep an anemone that size in a small tank. Before you buy another, research!

Agreed- mine went and moved all over the rockwork, found a couple of spots where he liked the flow, but eventually he settled inbetween the rocks in the sand bed, you could always see his foot anchored to the glass when looking up from the bottom of the tank

I also did not always do silvers- I gave fresh scallops or clam from Publix- or shrimp, too. I actually toned it down as I found I was feeding too much- he was growing huge. So inbetween feedings, I would give a squirt of mysis to the haddoni (his name was Monty) - and found that with each feeding his 'stickiness' and reaction became better- more responsive. Not sure if it was the mysis... and that created a 'want' for the next feeding.. but it seemed to work for me Good luck. The hardest part was fighting the feeling of having to do something when I first introduced him to my tank- I had that 'need' to feed, and place him where I thought he should be, lol, took some time to just let him alone, and he did great

:/ I did research, and i got mixed reviews. But then i went along with it cuz the LFS guys and customers told me i could do it (knowing my history with coral tanks). Ive kept up on small frequent water renewals but just this one feeding produced so much ammonia. I changed a little water and the fish are starting to relax, just ate.
The stung one is eating but badly burned. The anemone is moving away from the rocks so i think this is my chance to trade him in without having to stress removing him attached. My next nem would be a RBTA... Am i going to have similar challenges?
Also, this week i have finals (and then im officially a marine biologist!) so if im going to do this trade it should be today, or it will have to wait till next week... but idont know if i wanna risk it

If you can actually detect ammonia then this is no good. It seems as if either your tank is not mature enough or maybe the carpet is just too large for your biological filter to keep up.
The carpet IS beautiful...but the way it is behaving now does not seem good, more likely this will decline further rather than get better. While I definitely think keeping the carpet in this situation is possible, it is not ideal for the aquarium or the keeper.
My friend had a single RBTA and a a single maroon clown in a 24 gallon cube and it looked amazing. There are also Max mini carpets which would do great in a smaller system.
I really hope the nem starts looking better, but I would be prepared to take quick action if necessary.

I missed this thread while I was in London for the Olympics.
That S. haddoni isn't actually that huge --- that is the scary part. They can/will easily get over 2 feet across, and the amount of waste that they put out is shocking.
Realistically, shouldn't keep one in anything smaller than a 58/65. Been keeping S. haddonis for 15+ years and found it a challenge keeping one in a 33 with just a pair of clowns, let alone in a 24 with at least 3 clowns (( that I can see in the pictures )) and a tang.
