Media Reactor? UV sterilizer?

I’ve got a large D-D uv had it maybe 2 years. I have no idea when it becomes necessary so it’s just been sitting there. I hear a lot of oh it kill ich helps with water clarity. But I’ve had no problems with either. I’ve Set up a quarantine to come back ick and use filer sock and filter floss for clarity. The only real benefit I personally believe would come from a uv will be destroying free floating algae but the would have to travel through the uv.

Any replies as far as the media chamber vs a bag in the return would be appreciated also :)

I don’t use one. I just run Seachem Purigen in a bad. The one I buy treats 100gls for 3 months. Then after that you can recharge it. But I only have LPS and Softies right now.

I don’t plan on anything outside of softies LPS. I’ll look into the purigen. Thank you! Currently zero carbon

Yeah as soon as you cycle is done. Check out algae barn they have some good stuff.

But with a new tank there’s no need for a reactor just drop a bag of purigen in your tank and your good to go. And remember add fish and live stock slowly so you don’t crash your system or have a ton of algae blooms like I need.
Also check out Seachems’ stability. Definitely add that to your new tank for the 1st couple of months to help get a strong bio filter going.

What kind of testing kits are you going with? I’m hands down a fan of the RedSea line of additive and test kits. They make it simple to understand for beginners. And all there test kits come with a video on how to use them.

That’s what I was thinking. Purigen is ordered. I have stability ready to go.

Right now I have API for basics. And Salifert ready for reef testing. Have redsea tests coming to replace API this week.
