Melanarus Wrasse Watch Day 7

Got a melanarus wrasse last Friday. Haven't seen him since Saturday. Melanarus Wrasse Watch Day 7... Hoping he comes out soon

What and how often do you feed? And do you have any good caves for him to hide in?

Mine hid for the first couple of days but then got on the same schedule as the rest of the tank. He does like to hide under things, though. In my previous scape it was a cave, and currently he hangs out under a frag rack. If he's got places other than the sandbed to feel comfortable, he should start coming out to feed, and then start swimming more actively in the day.

Give him time. Probably hiding in the sand. They are a great fish!

Very pretty fish you've got there!

A week is not too bad. My first H. chrysus spent 3 weeks in the sand bed before he got used to my tank! During that time he always came out about an hour after lights out, swam around a bit in the dark and then went in the sand again.

All wrasses after that one only took a couple of days.

I have a lemon peel mimic tang. He was definitely bullying him a bit. Was boxing him out like he was going for a rebound.

Lots of rock work for him to hide in. Feed frozen mysis every other day or so along with spectrum pellets. Have a mimic tang and two clowns in there as well. I'll throw an algae wafer in for the tang as well

I'm in the exact same position! I got a yellow wrasse last Friday and have seen it for like 30 seconds since then. Yesterday I added pods to the QT where it's at (with sand, rocks, pvc), to hopefully give it something to munch on.

This fish is going to give me an anxiety attack any day now! ;Watching

I had a Yellow Coris Wrasse that "re-appeared" (swimming fine along all the other fish) after at least a month. It was a shocker-- because after a month I had long written him off.

Have you taken your fingers and run them through the sand to coax him out?

I have one too. Once he gets comfortable he will likely be out and about all the time during the day. Mine hid for a while but now he is always front and center until bed time like clockwork he will disappear into the sand. They say disturbing them while in the sand can add to stress and he might hide longer.

I had several frags sitting in the sandbed and noticed they kept getting knocked over. I was putting them back and hit my melanurus wrasse. He startled me so badly that I screamed, yanked my hand out of the tank, and flung water all over my son. Neither the wrasse nor my son were pleased.

I've poked around a few areas. Will look from under to see if he's against the glass every couple of days.

Yea, got a lid. I looked around the tank immediately and in the sump area in case he came in the back side (open back of stand). Nothing. First night he disappeared completely but came back the next morning. Still holding out hope
